In short -we should have our nose rubbed in something we have no ability to control. Cool.

I'm pretty sure that the pervasiveness and the inability to do anything about it is what the person you're referring to meant by 'exhausting', though I may be projecting what I find exhausting about the topic!

Don't lose all hope. Federally, I wouldn't hold my breath, but states and cities are fighting back. California, New York, Connecticut, Georgia, Ohio, Maryland, Illinois, Seattle, New Jersey, have all banned surveillance pricing. Colorado almost did but their governor vetoed it, so hopefully he gets voted out on his ass soon, but there is more push back on this than I expected from both parties. Lots of places still have bills being worked on. https://www.icsc.com/images/made/c54c2b3e89d2a51d/Pricing-Le...

The CO governor can't run again due to term limits, and he has already demonstrated he is willing to sell out the state as he exits.

You're missing the forest for the trees. The underlying point is that serious for-real consequences; beyond a slap on the wrist but tangible, real, do not buy your way out of jail consequences need to happen.

Would you feel better had he said "sent to get shived in the shower prison"? The meaning would be the same.

Or is it simply any kind of real description of what prison is like that you object to?

>Make music about UFOs and such, I mean.

Fleetwood Mac, 1975, "hypnotized" comes to mind. As does "Interstellar Overdrive" by Pink Floyd

So yeah. They did.

sure, sure, and Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft by the Carpenters in '77.

But what was the name of the song quoted in the comment you responded to?

Wasn't that also a song about UFOs and such and didn't that comment explicitly already acknowledge such songs existed?

Same as Instacart more or less, isn't it? Instacart is $99 and includes a Peacock subscription is the only differences I can see.

It's really not, actually. Often I read the comments before the article and getting a head's up that the article is slop is invaluable.

It's not only not 'worse than the LLM prose', it's a community service!

>At what point exactly are those companies going to be held accountable and punished for their irresponsible behaviour and overall disregard and negligence for security and ethics practices?

In this political climate? The fifth of never would be my guess.

That was my first thought too.

The people with money, obviously.

As if AI scrapers haven't already!

So fucking what? Nothing wrong with that. Lighten up, francis.

If the word fuck isn't offensive, there's absolutely no reason to use it.

Yet every culture across the globe has and has always had swearing, profanity, taboo words, fart jokes, and gate keepers decrying such things.

While the reasons may elude, the ubiquity speaks to something foundational.

If casual use of profane and taboo words isn't offensive, are they really profane and taboo?

Non homogenous population response says both Yes and No

Fart jokes are popular in US. Mostly.

no one is challenging whether "fuck" is offensive, we're challenging what powers the mild abrasiveness of a single word actually gives people in controlling behavior.
