Rust for web browsers…how’s Servo going?

Investors like a story that lets their imagination run wild. TSLA offers that. AI / NVIDIA has that 10-fold. It’s “man’s last invention” - you couldn’t come up with a better hook to raise capital.

Short of an emergency rate hike to 10%, nothing stops this bubble.

NVIDIA would have a market cap of 50 trillion if it matched the TSLA pe ...

Anthropic IPO will be a better example.

NVIDIA is still a widget business.

It's just circular financing - we give you GPUs, you give us your shares of a promised future $ 2,000,000,000,000 valuation. Despite they are unprofitable today and tokens are getting cheaper and cheaper.

Cash because no AI bubble means the market is cooked for a decade or so

I agree. I've been telling people that AI is the last great bubble. Every other place where printed money can go has already been tried.

Honestly a crash upward is more devastating for the working man

the same way bailing out the banks instead of the people was back in 08?

Startup idea: Crowdsource Claude tokens for distillation, routing a copy of all your tokens to your friendly Chinese distiller, compensating users with a small rebate on token cost (payable in Google Play gift cards to avoid CCP capital controls).

Sign me up.

This is basically like the RIAA/MPAA in the early 2000s trying to lobby politicians to crack down on torrents. It won’t work either.

Today, movies make money from in person theater tickets and records make money from tours. I don’t know what the equivalent would be for AI (maybe IRL robots?) but it does not look promising.

And before that 'home taping is killing music'. We're still paying a surcharge here on harddrives and other storage media because they could be used to store music or video.

C++ can do this as well with tuple unpacking. Rust copied it from C++.

It seems more likely that Rust, an expression language with pattern matching, has the thing which makes sense here because this is just a pattern match.

From Rust's point of view

    let (a, b) = function_which_returns_a_pair();
is not special compared to the idiomatic:

    while let Some(item) = stack.pop() { /* do stuff with items and the stack */ }
or if we hate tuples:

    let [a, b] = function_returns_an_array_of_two_items();

I'm not a C++ guy (aside from the odd patch to upstream projects) so maybe I'm missing something but are you talking about structured bindings? AFAICS those were added in C++17, so Rust had them for much longer. Besides, I would argue Python is the real inspiration for C++ here.

In Rust "tuple unpacking" is really just a special case of pattern matching, which is a far more powerful concept and was actually taken from OCaml.

Why are people trying to implement PHP in 2026?

A much better exercise I’d like to see is using C++26 reflection to accomplish the same thing. Because that will actually be used while Zig will not.

I have zero doubt that every model coming out of the CCP has some Manchurian code word built in. Being “local” is a nice way to get root.

ETERNALBLUE DANDERSPRITZ FUZZBUNCH

Ita okay when you're team does tho eh? Your statement is the definition of xenophobia.

You’re simping for a totalitarian regime that still practices communism

modern day china? communism?

Not coming up with or believing wildly implausible fantasy cyber attack scenarios is not simping. Communism bad, sure. Don’t let that blind you to reality.

Yes, but not that China practice communism at all. Communism is the better system hands down. Capitalism is a nihilistic cult who centers the individual above all else, I want it to die.

What exactly would be the point of this? How do you trigger it only when the session isn’t being observed, so you can avoid detection? If you’re not avoiding detection why isn’t /r/LocalLlama full of people reporting being pwned?

I can imagine biases in the model, and i can imagine someone post-training a model on hugging face to pwn someone, but for z.ai or qwen to do a large scale attack on random nerds running llms on their gaming gpu? They probably spent 10x more training the model than they could possibly exfiltrate before being detected.

> qwen to do a large scale attack on random nerds running llms on their gaming gpu

they would not do it on random nerds and I'm struggling to imagine what it could be used for practically, but generally speaking putting backdoors in tech and infra is not unheard of.

this is a possibility to consider in places where input is not trusted and decisions are important enough to warrant nation state attention.

Many U.S. corporations have built solutions based on one of the free local models.

If you spend a ton of money, time and goodwill to situate your trojans inside someone’s infrastructure, you don’t just blow it immediately. They would wait for a declaration of war.

And just hope nobody accidentally triggers a probabilistic fn and outs you, making your models untouchable? Big risk, unclear reward, using experimental tech? Much much easier to plant microcode in mobos and backdoors in network routers - if you really want something you can use in cases of war.
