The last time it was DNS at Salesforce, the poor guy got unceremoniously canned. So there's some incentive for it to... not be DNS.

No, he is not. It's just that OpenAI has just been doing things a lot better than their competitors lately, and he often highlights the things that make this true.

You can't just shrug off a whole host of threatening and criminal behavior because you sympathize with the cause of the terrorists committing the acts.

Antifa has caused a lot of damage to society, which is why they are considered a Domestic Terrorist Organization in the US and are being actively pushed back against now that their billionaire-backed funding networks have been identified.

> the US is a fucking joke.

> being anti-fascist is extremist? since when?

The joke is the people performing the acts of fascists that then claim to be anti-fascist. They simply do not recognize or acknowledge their own fascist, mob-like behavior, but apply the label to all of their enemies. They've read and heeded Saul Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals" to perfection. The US is one of the only countries taking the Antifa threat to civilization seriously.

Not since the venerable Joe McCarthy has America taken this threat with the seriousness it merits. I can only count the days until we get a proper House Antifa Terrorism and Extremism committee.

NSA, if you're reading, please relay this to Mike Johnson post-haste. America is so close to being great again!

"Threat to civilization"? I’m not even going to dignify that bullshit narrative with a response. And that’s before we get to the actual threats to civilization being unleashed by your pedo-rapist president—from starting a war with Iran to bombing an all-girls school and potentially dragging us toward WW3, with masked ICE gestapo thugs harassing american citizens.

Go touch grass and get off Facebook.

Some people avoid those because they tend to consist entirely of people that support banning non-approved ideas that the real world considers non-controversial. That's why X hasn't disappeared like some of the HN crowd predicted.

> consist entirely of people that support banning non-approved ideas that the real world considers non-controversial

What's an example?

Given the fact the comment you replied to is flagged and dead? Apparently even mentioning that some ideas online may not have widespread support offline.

I thought HN predicted it would fold due to mismanagement, and arguably it would've if it hadn't been delayed by being rolled into the larger Katamari ball of securities fraud that is SpaceTeslaXAI.

And while it hasn't disappeared, it's losing ground to Pinterest.

> And while it hasn't disappeared, it's losing ground to Pinterest.

Is it? I haven't seen a Pinterest link in a while so I guess it depends on what bubble you're in.

If you're not hanging out with a lot of Gen Z women it would explain why it's not on your radar, that's their key demo and they're on a very solid growth trajectory[1].

It's no secret, meanwhile, that twitter has seen steady declines both in daily active users as well as plummeting engagement levels from those that haven't left yet.

Who or what is fediverse? How do you think it works?

It's a network of social media sites aka servers that are independently run, and have no algorithm so posts are in chronological order usually. There's several types of sites, each replacing one conventional alternative like mastodon for x/Twitter and Lemmy for reddit.

It works because the sites belonging to one type can all see the content of other sites of the same type. To the user, each individual site is as convenient as a conventional social media site such as x/twitter. It aims to combine the advantages of decentralization such as independence, with the advantages of centralization such as a large amount of content

One roadblock is marketing, because the first thing the fediverse sites like mastodon or Lemmy try to do when you search for them on Google is get you into a server. That sounds too technical and is not how the average person uses social media at all. Bluesky fixes this and has an entirely new idea for how the fediverse works.

One downside to the concept of servers is that besides feeling fragmented to the average user compared to bluesky or Instagram, most tend to cater to a specific audience so they filter content for you. It's not like bluesky or Instagram where the user does it entirely from scratch by following accounts (which Instagram ignores anyways)

> It works because the sites belonging to one type can all see the content of other sites of the same type.

That's how it should work but its not how it works in practice because some admin can't stand the idea of opinions contrary to their own existing on the same network. So they deferedate from instances they don't like as well as those instances that don't do the same.

Yes, and? That's how it should work. That's the very point of it, you control your environment as you want. If you don't like someone, remove them. There is no single instance, that's the very point, its conceptually completely absurd to say a set of protocols is "block happy". Why do you feel entitled to other peoples computing real estate? There is no single "Mastodon", go and make your own and connect or don't connect to who you want.

You don't control the environment, some admin does who you cannot get away from without giving up your identity. And even if you self-host its pretty rich to say you control your environment without addressing that the community thinks its acceptable into bullying other instance operators into compliance with their witch hunts.

How is it the protocol's fault if people dislike you? You have literally no right to other peoples computing resources. Nothing in the protocol is stopping you from self hosting an instance. Its not like making another Twitter or Facebook, the software is readymade for you to install. So its frankly absurd to say a technical protocol is block-happy.

I know what this is, I was seeing if whatthesmack understands the concept. He clearly has some deep confusions where he lists Fediverse as among the list of services that are block happy. It does not conceptually make sense to call Fediverse as being block happy anymore than saying http or ssl is block happy.

>they tend to consist entirely of people that support banning non-approved

..meanwhile, X is owned by such a person.

>> Have you studied the DSA agenda in depth?

> Yes

Respectfully, you may have skimmed some material or watched a couple of minutes of MSNOW, because you wouldn't come to the conclusion that the DSA just wants free public transportation otherwise. Key aspects of the DSA's goals and the actual policy implementation actions of elected DSA-aligned politicians that are quite well aligned with the position of a person holding communist and other relatively extremist sympathies:

- state-controlled grocery stores [0]

- public ownership of the largest corporations and essential industries [1]

- abolition in full of police and prisons ("cut police budgets annually toward zero") [1]

- ending sanctions on states backing terrorist activities [1]

- permitting open, uncontrolled immigration [2]

- disregarding the existence of Israel ("democratic secular state [Palestine], from the river to the sea") [3]

- giving voting rights to noncitizens and prisoners [4]

I think what amazes me the most is that you read all of that and said “nope”.

I can’t wrap my head around why you would sacrifice your life and well being so that a small number of people can become impossibly wealthy?

I read those pages and find it absolutely fantastic. How someone could fight for the position to be a wage slave with no security against inflation, cost of living or bankruptcy or homelessness due to illness is frankly insane.

I reject your (and Wikipedia’s) theory of “remigration” arbitrarily defining something that is (not actually) happening in the US. People are being deported from the US based on their lack of legal presence in the country, which is what every country also does. Nobody is being deported because of their skin color.

Also, nobody is jumping to the conclusion that you’re wrong about something that is not actually happening. It’s just a simple fact that what you’ve stated is preposterous to begin with and is not the policy of any recent law or administration in the US.

No one is saying it is currently happening, you goof. Remigration is an idea proposed by identitarian assholes like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Sellner, author of a book called Remigration, who Musk has promoted in tweets.

It is not currently happening, but the richest man in the world is among those actively working to make it happen.

Again, you types confidently misunderstand a discussion.

I know it’s cool with the kids to talk down Texas and its folks, but you might be surprised that Texas…

- produces more electricity from wind generation than any other US state.

- consumes more electricity from wind generation than any other US state (3x the next biggest, Iowa).

- has more installed wind generation capacity than any other state.

- energy usage leads all other US states by being comprised of 22% wind generation sources.

Yeah but how often does the governor brag about that? Using renewable energy and championing the use of renewable energy are different things in the political world. One reduces costs, one invites the crazies.
