Reddit didn't even require an email address up until a couple years ago. Throwaway accounts are getting more and more arduous to create.

Just yesterday I noticed that if you do "paste text only" when pasting a URL in Outlook, the link is no longer clickable, just a string of text. Maybe it would turn into a clickable link by the time the email reaches its recipient, who knows. But I ended up doing the "paste into notepad and re-copy" thing.

Normally I also use the address bar, but these days if you copy-paste a web address from Edge to Outlook/Teams, it won't show up as the URL itself but the page's title as a hyperlink.

Consider that people use their phones differently than you. I take screenshots on a daily basis, accidental ones at least once a week. Usually it's just the lock screen though.

Which, somehow, confused me even further. I get that it's a stylistic choice to make them easy to read or whatever, but my first thought was "wait, they just posted screenshots with the names censored like a bad Reddit post?"

Semantic HTML and CSS for text is infinitely better than screenshots for accessibility, as well as cheaper to process for LLMs/agents reading it.

For the first reason alone, it's worth it when you can.

Is this a thing now? The only reason I still find Reddit links in search results somewhat useful is because old.reddit redirect[1] ensures I don't get login prompts even when a subreddit happens to be NSFW for whatever reason.

Though they've started to do this thing where it only shows a few top comments and then "relevant" threads below that, and you have to click to load more. Annoying but still usable.

Author of said extension here. I've been getting some reports of this happening in a few countries, namely Australia and the US so far. See https://github.com/tom-james-watson/old-reddit-redirect/issu....

Well that's disappointing but not entirely surprising I guess. Probably won't be too long before they make that worldwide.

Here's a thread where it's being discussed: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49005747

I've had a redirect to old.reddit.com configured within Kagi for a while, but recently they announced that they would begin forcing logins on old.reddit too, using the flimsy excuse of security. The rollout hit me this week, can't even view the site without an account anymore.
