Crucially too, people do not know _how_ to host anymore either, treat guests. A host needs a certain self effacing attentivess.

i think infra software will be just fine. ai isnt going to implement a saas-database. and why would anybody migrate of mongodb, just to put their business data elsewhere?
it's end user software that's absolutely getting crushed.
modern architecture is best understood as an expression of the ethos of efficiency. because it is cheap, easy to maintain, uniform, reproducible (which are machine values), therefore it is good, aspirational, wholesome (which are humanist values) for people.
as an aside, for the longest time i have thought modernity was fully understood by the 60s (ellul, debord, macluhan, ...). but maybe there the focus was too narrowly political, sociological. it has been revealing to see this ethos (and it is an ethos, make no mistake) recently linked to autism. high modernists are uniform, monomaniacal people. like machines. and the world they fashion, is therefore one that is uniform, principled. how the unsociable autist colleague cannot distinguish between is and ought, so will modern architecture barrel down deductively to its unpleasant conclusion.
modernisn is the commodification of all spheres of existence, it is an unprecedented evolution, how to break out of this, how to get of this train with only a single endpoint.
temporal makes you split up your async tasks explicitly into a message (a request to fulfill a task, thrown up to a temporal server), and a task handler (pulling a tasks-request from a queue, from the temporal server), rather than both wrapped in a vanilla request/response cycle.
temporal centralizes all the error handling, retry handling, ... some web pages to manage failed, pending tasks.
it's been good for us, but a real step function in complexity of the app.
