Napa and Sonoma are very high cost of living areas

Usage limit is - limiting. I may not notice the increased value of a more advanced model, but I will notice when I can't even use the service.

I'm saying we don't know what x is for Pro usage. If Pro's newX is 3 times oldX, new10x > old20x.

That aside, all of the ambiguity around usage is killing their credibility (among other things). Usage limits feel like they swing wildly day to day and week to week, and it's hard to trust any of the other claims they make when that's the case.

Maybe they are speeding up things that were not the bottleneck or don't matter. Or LLMs speed up the time to learn, "well this idea probably sucks actually", which is great, but in the end there is still no good idea. For software dev, it had already gotten pretty efficient before LLMs came around - the business of making software demanded it. There are still gains to be had no doubt, but many will have less impact.

I'm using claude to make gaming mod apps I never would have bothered to code before, but they have zero monetizable value. There is demand for sure, but somewhat ironically, copyright/IP/TOS law stands in the way. The thing which committed the biggest copyright infringement in human history lets me make another thing which I can't release because of copyright law. I'd get cease-and-desisted instantly if I did so.

For my part I’ve seen it actually slowing down time to decide ideas suck. It’s reduced the friction to start implementing so much that people are just diving in before they’ve even had a chance to fully bake the idea. At which point they’re likely to get stuck on Mr Sunk Cost’s Wild Ride.

Management doesn’t see the problem because they are still completely distracted trying to measure dev team productivity in story points or KLOC instead of something meaningful like USD.

Correct framing.

Many here are idiotic. Economic growth is measured via monetisation of output - not what you think is of value to you.

I had a career for 18 years but I'm ready to leave programming behind. Its funny I never successfully learned Haskell, tried a couple times. Unlike probably most people here, programming was not something I felt was a "calling" - I started fairly late at age 17 or so and it seemed like a decent way to make a living, and that was sort of true for a while. But now in my early 50s, that is no longer even "sort of true" (no paid programming work for years now), so IMO its not useful for me to spend energy maintaining that skill. I still eyeball some of the code that Claude gives me, but that's about it.

Programming, at least for me, is rapidly going the way of the dodo bird. Time to spend what I managed to save for retirement, a bit earlier than I expected, hope it lasts.

In america nothing is getting built except data centers. Without the drug-addled AI push, we'd be in same spot as Europe, maybe worse.

> Which sounds sensible on the surface, until you realize that all military organizations have extensive experience with that exact question

Tell that to a certain school in Iran

I like plan mode personally. I only use claude code for the web, and the questions claude asks me to clarify are usually pretty important - mostly because I was too vague or contradictory in my prompt, or what I was asking for conflicted with something else in the code. I don't know how claude would resolve that without plan mode.

Also for session planning, as in when-can-I-walk-away-from-computer, its nice to know the particular rhythm of initial crunch - ask questions - make plan - do it. Especially with a 5 minute cache timeout.

That seem plausible. As a gamer and 3d aficionado since 3dfx voodoo 1, I've never owned a VR set and that was partly because the good ones, at least on paper, all seemed to be Meta products. I don't use any Meta products, although I am probably _used by_ Meta products, which is part of the reason I don't use them.

Now I'm getting older and have less interest in VR, certainly don't want augmented reality glasses, even if they could be used for gaming. If anything I want glasses that subtract reality, as its a little too much at times.

VR is a great space now. Lots of competitors with great products. Meta has the best mass market option but many competitors with higher end displays like 4K per eye micro-OLED.

VR gaming has never been hotter. AI coding agents mean lots of enthusiasts can now turn their favorite flat games into VR. Huge community with that.

Various pharmacies in Canada will accept a US prescription and send you the medication via mail, usually at far cheaper than what you would pay for the same in the US.

This prevents it.

Interesting. Got some examples of the pharmacies?

Yep. My father gets a med from there.

1 year supply from Northwest? $477 (includes shipping).

1 year supply from CVS? $1395

Okay Kash, you almost got him this time.

It’ll likely be a rep hit but - I’d argue livestock imports and booze imports over pharma would be Kash’s interest.

Another possibility is recession in next two years, but its brief enough that recovery starts before 2028 election - republicans take credit and voters believe it - JD Vance gets elected president.

I recall reading something from axios or similar, talking about how a CEO said a "nice light recession right now would be perfect for us" or something to that effect.
