I have a completely opposite experience. DS4.1 and Mimo v2.6 take too long to finish a task, not worth it.

Frontier labs are way friendlier to use, these smaller models need finnese and near expert understanding of how these models really work, what their limits are and how to use them to their full potencial.

For example, there's a lot of people saying luna from openai is bad. However, that is simply not true. They're using it as-if you can talk to it, similar to how you would talk to a human, but what you actually want is combining it with something like prewalk from omp where you have a socially(?) smart model start the work and once the first edit lands switch to a cheap alternative like luna to finish work.

Luna and in general, smaller models, will struggle to understand the intent and complexities behind human language.

These investors are not that smart

All FF did was building a dataset.

DeepSeek invented the whole reasoning paradigm and keep pushing for innovation. I hope they get the success they deserve.

OpenAI released their first reasoning model (o1-preview) https://openai.com/index/introducing-openai-o1-preview/ several months before DeepSeek's R1 https://arxiv.org/abs/2501.12948

CoT, was being studied using GPT-2, so...who invented hot water first?

https://arxiv.org/pdf/2402.03300 DeepseekMath was published many months before O1-preview.

This is “google brain”
