It was Carlyle who, in his seminal Occasional Discourse on the Negro Question, argued that slavery is a fundamental human relationship, and as such you can't ban slavery, but can only ban the word.

It's a picture that's been painted in a different scifi novel,

     Hug me till you drug me, honey;
     Kiss me till I'm in a coma;
     Hug me, honey, snuggly bunny,
     Love's as good as soma."
Still, I'm optimistic. With obesity, who cares about the underlying cause if you can easily cure the symptoms?

I would prefer not to need an expensive drug for the rest of my life.

Yeah, but I think the price will come down over time. There are already purely oral formulations being developed, which will likely be even more effective than first generation injectable GLP-1 agonists, and much cheaper.

I saw it used five years ago on a LessWrong post: https://www.lesswrong.com/posts/Y6TtPfcKiHjK9Bmoa/sleeping-j...

That's the only time I've ever even heard it mentioned outside HN. I felt a lot of excitement for Julia's automatic differentiation during the ML era, because you had programmers with weak math backgrounds suddenly needing to do basic calculus (any dev from that era has the chain rule burnt into their brain).

Then the ML community settled on Python as their language, and if performance was an issue you wrote a library in C++, and obviously that was all sucked into the event horizon of LLMs so people "code" in whatever language the LLMs had the best training data for.

Wouldn't this make credit riskier for lenders, reducing access to credit in general and thus making housing less accessible especially to working people?

Not asking polemically, I just have never studied economics and wonder if my intuition here is flawed

I think the actual trade-off is between average acceptable risk at society level.

Some societies prefer huge risks for huge benefits, in those one (might) need a more detailed credit reports because everything is faster, people accept huge risks and the situation can suddenly change.

Some societies prefer more stability. Lower risks, lower surprises. Less opportunities, everything is slower, people can't even take that many risks, simpler histories will do th trick.

From what I notice though, housing seems to be a problem in both types of societies, irrespective on how credits are given, because there are other things involved (regulation, NIMBY, housing used as value, airbnb, geography, etc).

>do we want to win talent war or not?

Talent war against whom? It's not like the best and brightest are lining up to defect to China.

The word genocide is currently undergoing semantic bleaching (https://www.merriam-webster.com/grammar/very-actually-and-ot...). It's too powerful a word for propagandists/activists to resist beating it into oblivion in the service of their causes.

Targeting civilians, hospitals, and food distribution networks is just normal warfare! Israel has a right to defend itself! Their land was promised to us thousands of years ago, and they have no right living on it!

I'm a former (and sometimes current) engineer pivoting towards support and person focused roles. Throughout my career, I've always worked with clients, customers, and teams, and it's my favorite part of the job. If you need a highly technical person to provide support, sales, or person focused work, let's talk!

You're assuming the comment you respond to is complaining about the length. I believe you're mistaken, and they're actually appreciating that the number of pages references a common practice where you lay on someone upside down and lick eachothers' weiners/vaginas

>Basically, any copyrighted material should do.

Anything illegal, for that matter. Crime as proof of humanity. Fun future!

>All if you're of a certain ethnicity.

Can Arab Jews make Aliyah?

Yes, Mizrahi or Sephardic Jews qualify. Hebrew ofc is a branch of Old Arab so one can argue all Jewish people are Arab.
