This thing is all over YouTube, they really backed up the truck to the Influencer Club and started handing out the goods. Lots of people I like and respect have showcased it, like Applied Science, Jeff Geerling, among others.

But although there's a lot of discussion about how large a discount this is from FormLab's 8 billion dollar printers, there is absolutely NO comparison that I can find to other brands! OK, it's a cheaper Bentley - but how does it compare to the Toyota or Honda that we can get down the street? There are loads of options with --on paper-- better specs for half this price or less.

Yes! Exactly.

So much of the content around this printer is adressing what resin printing is, and comparing it to fdm printers. I already know what resin printers are and what their general pros and cons compared to a a fillament based one. But they don’t bother answering why should i choose this resin printer over an other one.

So i will just wait until the hype dies down and people who owned resin printers review it.

There are two reason why i’m cautiously optimistic about this printer though:

- i’m a member of a hackspace. And training new members on our elegoo resin printers is a pain. In particular explaining safe resin handling is a battle. In theory this model from Formlabs would require less contact with the resin. So that sounds great. Of course that promise is only good as long as things go well. But there might be benefit there.

- in my private practice i make jewellery. One of the techniques i use is lost-resin casting. The resins involved are tricky. The designs are intricate Because of that there are many print failures. In theory their printers and slicer should be much better engineered to minimise such failures. Does it work that way in practice? Only a review could tell.

I thought FauxHammer's review was pretty good. He also talks about his interactions with Formlabs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJxnWQdjIyk

Also, one of the most... colorful reviews. I watch his stuff just because of his style...

Adam Savages Tested did like two whole episodes on it.

I’m ok with it. It’s the kind of thing they would look at. But it did stand out.

One difference is that Apple has always considered it their job and divine right to tell you how to use your computer, where Windows a d Linux never have.

The Green party is not a force in Canadian politics, they have one seat and barring radical events will never have another.

Th Bloc has 21 seats, and has had as many as 54. They would certainly ally with the conservatives. (Not the modern maple maga variety, but old school PC).

Had two seats literally one election ago and are looking likely to get that second one back.

I know two seats is not "a force" but saying they'll never have another than one seems silly in this context.

The Federal Greens have had more than one seat before. Support for Greens is growing, and PEI may elect a provincial Green government next.

Indirect subsidies are an accepted economic concept and well studied. The posts you replied to are obviously talking about indirect subsidies and dismissing them because they didn't say "indirect" everywhere is just sophism.

Why?

I think if you're worried about being harassed by your neighbours if they find out what you do during the day, you should be thinking hard about what you do during the day.

Yeah! If you’ve got nothing to hide you’ve got nothing to fear!

looks at you suspiciously

Are those… curtains?

You don't think there's a difference between recording somebody on the street installing mass surveillance devices and peering into person's window?

Child porn is an unavoidable consequence of having computers? Is that what you meant to say? I doubt it but can't find another reading of your comment.

Right, I'm just as confused about it as the person I was replying to. The connection is so detached it doesn't make sense..

It's relevant because the thing X was getting punished for was releasing huge quantities of AI child porn of real children.

Plenty of people have become alienated from their own family due to blind loyalty to Trump and support for his cruelty. They remain loyal.

All the time? Oh, c'mon!

By the way two important social media strategies whether on TV or in text forums are,

1) appear unflappable

2) never deviate from the talking points

Read (1) and (2) with an implied parenthetical phrase: "when in public"

These are effective because the other side usually settles for small wins of seeing their counterpart flinch, feel lost or embarrassed i.e. to win in a fleeting way. Therefore, to the degree you can keep a straight face the better you deflect these small wins ... in public.

It has a strong secondary benefit of removing from context common sense, consistency i.e. the realm of cause/effect, policy where reality is more closely aligned. And when that goes out the window, your runway to BS is 10x longer.

Ejecting family wrongly arrested, misidentified, or those have followed the law (meager and crappy as it is sometimes), or who are denied due process is not unalloyed win in private people claim in public. Even if the guy is here is illegal and should be removed ... there's kids, money, and other dependencies involved. It's not the clean win people say.

What goes on off camera and off the HTML page is a whole other reality.

Here's an anecdote I heard personally: a guy I know went to Mar a Largo for a business function not related to Trump, but as a club house selling its meeting rooms and menu for revenue. My buddy is a non-white guy of considerable wealth, business success, and connections. This guy allegedly ran into Harris Faulkner (FOX news host) . During chit-chat she said she told this guy she does not associate with everything she says on camera. She continued to explain by saying she presents a viewpoint her employer pays her to convey.

You do not believe in statistics as a discipline?

I don't think most polling qualifies as statistics, without providing info like selection criteria or number of respondents. Otherwise we'll walk right into another situation like when Trump won an election while polling in near last place.

Or maybe I want something a little more significant than "we asked around the newsroom, and 35% of fox news reporters approve of the current administration". Cool, thanks, but that's not helpful or even a useful datapoint.

The state of the art (which confirms this ~35% approval number) is far more rigorous than that.

Start with a meta-review of historical accuracy and transparency, eg: https://www.natesilver.net/p/pollster-ratings-silver-bulleti...

Details on methodology and sample size can be Googled, eg: https://poll.qu.edu/methodology/ , https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2015/07/24/ev... , https://www.google.com/search?q=Marquette+University+Law+Sch..., etc.

Sample size is less important than you might think, due to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binomial_proportion_confidence...
