You bring up a very good point. Not only do lots of people buy inferior products, lots of people employ inferior intelligences

To be fair, hiring intelligence is not easy.

True, but I also believe that one can generally hire "more intelligence" if one is willing to pay more in salary and benefits, which most companies aren't. Basically, the original argument wr Microsoft Teams.

This comes on top of other reporting that shows that real wages have been falling behind the inflation rate meaning people feel they are able to afford a more basic lifestyle than they could in the past otherwise all else being equal. That's the general zeitgeist and backdrop and this data seems to sort of complement that as a "oh that makes sense". The main issue is that inflation is now Rising higher than GDP growth

Yeah, see, that's a specific comparison that does point to things getting worse (and I don't disagree with that), but the article doesn't mention inflation once. I really don't like this 'well it doesn't matter whether the claims and logic are right so long as the vibes are', because if the issue is real-terms wages falling because inflation is high then that suggests a different origin and set of possible solutions than wages falling because their share of GDP is falling. In fact it's probably more important to not muddy a real issue with a bunch of reporting that doesn't accurately reflect what's going on.

The thing is there's almost always an open source option in every category.. this just adds more noise and confusion amongst those which potentially benefits the proprietary winner

Or going a slightly different direction, every revolution is ultimately a conflict between elites. Pissed off elites lead to revolution.

Still this broader effort looks more like performance art since the people who decide what SaaS to use are on the other side of this devide

> looks more like performance art

Not that I think this particular instance is particularly high-effort, but almost all revolutionary acts appear performative. That's kind of the point?

You don't bring publicity to your cause by keeping your head down and staying quiet (and as they say, any publicity is good publicity).

I think that's an unnecessarily pessimistic take. The way I look at it the industry did not wake up to how big this was until Q4 and so it makes sense that you would see astronomical growth in q1 and Q2 as everybody woke up and started adopting. Seeing the growth Taper down to a 4.5x annualized rate which to your point will only continue to taper but it's still mind-boggling at this scale ... you just don't have anything else like this in the economy. This is like hyperscaler Revenue scale achieved in 15 years being achieved five times as quickly. At this rate Anthropic will exceed AWS Revenue within a year

>At this rate Anthropic will exceed AWS Revenue within a year

And in 10 years it will be worth the entire Earth's economy.

It is a lot easier to switch model providers than it is to switch cloud providers. And the open weight models from Chinese Labs make Claude a lot more of a commodity than any service provided by AWS.

> At this rate Anthropic will exceed AWS Revenue within a year

Well that’s the point. They’re not continuing at that rate of growth.

I have to say I'm surprised GrubHub is so small.. I thought they were basically a clear number two

It's kind of obvious if you ever sat a Taco Bell waiting for your food that it's always the red bags coming in.

It's interesting it's not ahead of Claude on the coding benchmark right?

Incredible back story here if I can trust Gemini on this as that dates back to over 10 years ago when Musk accused Larry Page of being too obsessed with bringing about AI and hence co-founds OpenAI... the irony of course being that OpenAI raced ahead while Google has been conservative

And as a reminder to folks he's the writer of (the newer era) Westworld which if you haven't seen the full first season really turns into an incredible mind bender

That show should have died the hero, i.e. after season one.

S2 was reasonably OK, IMO. But that was it. And all their talk of having a fantastic entire story laid out right from the start? I don't believe a word of it. There's no way they had thought up Rehobaum or whatever it was called back when they started work on S1.

Also creator of and writer on Person of Interest, which had an okay first season but gradually got amazing in later seasons, following a roughly inverted arc from Westworld.

Person of Interest was probably the first example of superintelligent AI that actually left me thinking that it could really happen (and with the conclusion that this was not a priori a good or bad thing).

I think it's intentional for balancing a demand profile rather than spiking their massive user base onto a new model all at once
