almost, but not quite ... the difference between those is that the stereotypical ham radio enthusiast is obsessed with following regulations and laws to the T. while the stereotypical hacker is all about gray zones, loop holes and questioning rules.
wouldn't it make more sense to tighten the rules and requirements for contribution? how would you even identify AI assistance if the result is immaculate? it seems to me that banning AI is conflating low-quality or low-effort with using AI. I understand those correlate statistically and also causally ... but latter only for specific lazy cohorts. if the AI assisted contribution is of high quality why would you ban it? especially given that you couldn't even identify it or would they still discard it because some comments exhibit Claudisms? tests, linting, more tests, style guide abidance, even more tests and banning contributors who fail to deliver.
If you can't tell that the contributor used AI, the PR is good - how would they know to forbid it? This rule hopefully stems the tide of low level fly-by contributions. As they said, it's also not set in stone, there will be enough time to change it later if needed.
and that generation was educated without AI. going to be interesting how future generations of mathematicians will fare who have been using AI from day 1. I suspect they'll be simply much worse at math.
That generation will say "How on earth people could do this without AI", just like we have said "How on earth people could do this without the internet".
Without agents - sure, 100x slower. But without LLMs? Some jobs I do would be borderline impossible.
I gave an LLM recently a job of analysing past sessions to estimate how much time it would take a human to do the jobs requested.
Ingesting 600k word document and drawing conclusions/patterns from it is something I routinely give to Terra. It would take a human 33h non stop to read it. But finding patterns with good precision - personally I wouldn’t be able to.
being a night owl isn't the same as suffering from circadian rhythm disorder. it just means that you are a night person. the suffering happens if you are a larch but live like a night owl because your circadian rhythm is messed up. and adhd messes that rhythm up.
It may or may not be useful to you, but when I am constantly tired I've found it can come from one of two things: not eating enough calories, or I need to take vitamin B12 supplements.
I'm probably tired from eating too much calories. Vit B doesn't help a lot. But I changed my lifestyle recently from almost constant sitting to almost constant standing, a lot more movement, less calories, lost a lot of weight (still a lot to go) and it helped, but not that much. I tried a lot of supplements along the way. Looks like I'm destined to be the pidgeon...
I disagree. There are obviously many good reasons to turn your back towards society. The real issue is that it probably won't work - number 1 are the economic realities of maintaining self-sufficiency - number 2 is society will come to haunt you eventually ... they'll build something next to your hideout, they'll find a reason why you broke some building code or law, they'll come to rob you at night or when you're out, they expect a smartphone registered mailbox 2.0 with an AI account paid with a bitcoin credit card and you have to register for that in person at some office etc ... number 3 is you probably overestimated your motivation to actually live or die with the consequences of checking out from society.
