Very well said. This is one of the most unintentionally hilarious posts I’ve ever read on HN.

Just like I did for Fox One during the World Cup and then 4 months and $120 later I remember to cancel it.

Then I pay for a subscription for a tool to remind me to cancel subscriptions and forget to cancel that one too.

You’re missing the subconscious part. You make associations you’re unaware of and you choose the product without thinking.

If it didn’t work, they wouldn’t do it and it wouldn’t be the cornerstone of the internet economy. No one is immune.

Yes there is a subconscious part but we can also do deliberate shopping, by buying only from whitelisted sources and whitelisted brands who have earned my trust. Before 30 I never used to consider things like this but after a certain age almost everyone is picky and filters with their own biases too. Anti-ad bias or an anti-product bias is not going to be overridden subconsciously by watching an ad for that product, unless the product is actually good product.

And if good product, they are usually known already by word of mouth.

No, I am quite aware of the assertion of subliminality and alleged subconscious coercion.

To borrow from Sagan: I could similarly claim that a dragon lived in your garage. You would rightly be doubtful and expect proof of said claims. I'll leave the rest of that gem for you to read if you haven't before (one of my favorites!).

People would appreciate and enjoy this work 100x more if it was written in your broken English. Either your English is good enough to read (even with some minor grammatical errors) or it's not and Claude generated most of the body text. In any case, not interested in your slop.

A decade? Better not tell the investors that!

The thesis that intellectual activity will disappear due to AI is similar to the flawed logic people use against taxing billionaires. "If you tax billionaires, then no one is going to want to work hard!"

In reality, we are programmed to compete and produce and climb the social hierarchy. Intellectual achievement and its use as a delineator in society is not going away anytime soon. Your blog post is active, living proof of this.

It's just shifting... likely to more and more things that signal "hey, this was definitely not produced by AI" such as the lack of capitalization of sentences which has caught on.

Do you think status seeking will have a productive outlet without work?

What punishment does the country of Denmark get here, if you had to guess?

No idea, but given that the article [0] mentions a private company getting pwned as the root cause, blame'll probably fall onto them? Since the Danish government doesn't necessarily seem to have done much wrong, AFAIUI.

This has the most obvious AI slop tell of all, in my opinion… SO MUCH TEXT. Just sections and sections of header + subheader + bullet list composed of header + subheader + paragraphs.

I’m reading max 2 sentences on any landing page. Most people probably less. Having to scroll and scroll through walls of text is a clear sign of AI.

I completely agree. The govt IT vendor is at fault here since it seems the data was just unprotected.

If you can’t stop openai from accidentally, or at least non-maliciously, accessing my private info.. then you definitely can’t stop the bad guys!

The point is moot anyways. All info about everyone is out there for the taking now by a half-competent AI prompter. What do we do about that is the real question?

It's like filing your gov tax return in a five eyes country: you guys actually know the answer already, just save me the trouble. But we have to act like they haven't been spying the whole time.

If we actually distributed the benefits of mass surveillance and privacy invasion (and now add wilful copyright infringement) then it would be enormously less objectionable.

there can be more than one side at fault

Spam = excessive promotion of your work. It’s not one comment, but the entire context of all your comments.

Gaslighting because it’s so OBVIOUS that this is what people are referring to by “spam” that you almost have to be purposely pretending to not understand. Such a prolific writer simply has to be aware of the fine line where promoting your work becomes excessive.

Not taking sides here.
