I have always been an infrequent flosser, but deep down I've hoped for something like this to reach mainstream scientific consensus for a while so I no longer beat myself over it. Fingers crossed this is not a skewed study

At my dentist’s recommendation I’ve been using Proxabrush every day. It is very important not to force it, and my teeth are very tight so I had to get the smaller ones (I even have trouble flossing between some) but I had some early decay between some teeth and these seem really good with trapped material before regular electric brushing.

There are two tricks to mostly avoid flossing. Before you brush your teeth, use a interdental brush in the gaps between your teeth. Depending upon the shape of your mouth and tooth placement, there might be one or two gaps that you cannot reach. Next, brush your teeth. Finally, one or twice a week, after you brush your teeth, floss the gaps that your interdental brush cannot reach. Why after brushing? So your flossing won't smell bad. That is one of the biggest complaints about flossing when people are surveyed.

Water flosser.

I told my dentist how much I liked my water flosser, and he immediately said "that's fine but it's not very effective, you still need to use regular floss too".

Meanwhile my dentist said I should be using a water flosser instead of regular flossing.

I use both, and I can say that I definitely get more out from between my teeth with the water flosser. These days string floss is just for when I have something big stuck tightly that I know the water flosser won't be able to shift.

Came to post this. These things are frigging amazing and like $20. Absolutely everyone should have one. Really you can floss and brush and it still gets stuff. I wish they existed when I was younger! Buy one! Thank me later!

On the 'dentists don't really know what they're doing' front, my kid's orthodontist ($$$$) describes himself as a "fencing contractor". Conversely, I got the water flosser tip from an Indonesian dentist who I hired opportunistically on holiday for a clean; he turned up in flip-flops but decanted to bare feet during operating and gave the most sage advice I've ever had in 40+ years of dentists: BUY A WATER FLOSSER. Terimakasih, Doktor!

>I wish they existed when I was younger!

Me too, had to wait until the 1960's.

The marketing push was really effective, even on black & white TV.

The originals were so powerful that it would rarely leave anything more than floss would leave behind.

I can only imagine the water jet on new units over the decades got so much weaker maybe because somebody did some accidental eye damage or something.

What I like to do once a week is to use it with hot water, not too hot but about like hot coffee or tea which I do not drink.

I believe there are many types of germs that are highly adapted to thrive at your normal body temperature, and do not survive at temperatures too many degrees away from that.

This seems really good for the gums too not just between the teeth, and the modern offerings basically massage the gums when you pound them with the water jet, the old units would have been too painful for that.

Also on a deep minor toothache just getting started, which feels like it is way down between the root & bone, I have sprayed the tooth directly long enough to heat up the whole tooth which seems to work

This is fairly off-topic but I thought you were familiar alright! I used JUCE back in college for a POC synthesizer and I remember it being the absolute best for plugin development. Incredibly enough it was my first point of contact with C++ and it was a joy to develop with.

I have not revisited VSTs post LLMs or even stayed close to music since I lost my collection and rock climbing has consumed most of my last decade, but kudos to putting such unique tooling out there when the rest of the ecosystem looked so byzantine. It's wild how people built so many incredible virtual instruments back in the day.

Going through those memories I'm now curious how the scene is like today where wild idea projects are more within reach.

Nitrome kicked ass! It had such a unified vision for the universe of its games. You could tell they were all conceived with great care and they felt connected to each other. It's nice to see they're looking the same and still alive and kicking [1].

What a treat to see this pop up here. I used to be obsessed with Madness flash shorts back in the day. Got me into Flash and web tooling in general. A testament to the prime 2000s web.

Why Postman? There are nicer, git friendlier options for something being shown as a git repo primarily.

Can you advise?

https://hurl.dev is pretty neat. As others have mentioned already - Bruno is also lean, dependable and recently got .yml support.

bruno, for one

I wanted to say I was ticking off all my dusty project ideas with LLMs one at a time. But in reality what I have been working the hardest so far is to help family in times of need, one situation after another for a few years by now.

I'm just glad I had a nice Father's day recently and it paid off. Finger's crossed for more like this.
