I believe the Russians tried something similar in Ukraine with cloaking themselves to fool infrared drones.

Using 50 cent Mylar blankets which ... did not work like they hoped from the videos I've seen.

Wow, $2/$10 for input and output even if just for introductory pricing is an incredible deal. Wonder how token efficient it is.

it says on footnote "After the introductory period expires, the price of $4 per 1M input tokens and $20 per 1M output tokens will apply."

But if they keep releasing a model every month, then the frontier model will keep being perpetually half price?

The point of the lower pricing is to move compute (and sysadmin) capacity around

You can check out the token usage on AA. It used ~30% fewer tokens than Opus.

Pricing is insane, can have Luna going after a goal for 10 days and not run into maxing out the limits.

Why would you do this though, surely these long running /goal tasks just like letting a wild animal out into your code base.

Does anyone care about code quality anymore?

1. you can have luna clean up after itself and improve code 2. you might be doing something like video-editing, cad modeling, artistic direction, pcb routing, etc. that need to run a long time to "converge"

I prefer to do these things myself and grow my competency.

This will make me more valuable in the future when everyone has lost the ability to do anything on their own.

Preparing for the zombie apocalypse seems silly to outsiders, but when it actually happens, who's gonna be laughing?

Has there ever been an instance in history when this strategy worked? Plato argued that writing things down will make your memory worse, and less skilled as a debater (kind of true!) How are the Luddites doing at textiles? I remember the arguments that using 'high level languages' like C and Pascal will make you not understand machine specific details (kind of true!)

I respect that you want to learn how things are done, that is a great trait. But once you learn how its done, you should use the tools to free up cognitive load for more difficult tasks.

For me, long-running tasks are not about generating a lot of code. I’m very picky about what my code looks like. But I’ll happily run for long periods of time debugging problems and/or doing testing and validations. Depending on the problem space, this could mean hours of work for each iteration while it attempts to find a working solution

Luna is fine. It's not Claude Sonnet 3.5.

No its not I use llms just as much as the next guy and not even fable can keep a codebase organized on long running unspervised tasks.

Not all tasks require frontier intelligence. If you’ve got an easy, but tedious workflow, Luna can be quite good at that.

Wow! Though need to see its token efficiency to better assess. Been hearing rumors it generates much more output tokens per task.

my projection is that they are still gonna be pretty far behind, but they will sew it up in the next few releases. it feels like they were caught with their pants down on how much work OpenAI has put into that area, but i doubt there is some magical secret sauce that OpenAI has that Anthropic simply cannot catch up with.

Have been working on my game:

https://slitherworld.com

Still need to polish it up, but it’s been coming along. I just added a battle royale mode. Items and the backend server side needs work.

I agree completely and that’s exactly what I did for my site:

https://vimgolf.ai

Crazy how they have GTA San Francisco before GTA 6

GTA Baghdad by the Bay

Are the .exe to install a always on computer as part of a open source repo I can verify with a hash? Otherwise I am not going to trust it.

If you don't know how to answer this question yourself, you certainly aren't able to read the source code to determine whether it's trust worthy in the first place, so what does it matter to you?

Nvm, just clicked on the link and took me to the GitHub. I guess that’s what I get from skimming the website.

This is genuinely a competitive model, considering it beats Claude Sonnet 5 on almost all benchmarks and is more than half its price. Seems like Google is back in the game, though not leading the frontier anymore.

Sonnet 5 is arguably the most cost ineffective model to ever be released, so that's not really impressive.

It can regularly cost more than Fable, take longer, and deliver far far lower quality.

I'm much more interested how this compares to Luna - which on price is terribly - but at least on quality the benchmarks make this look competitive / usable.

If Google continues monthly Flash releases like Sundar said they would, and they continue to have this much of an improvement in cost/quality - then in a few months this could reasonably be very competitive with the best of the best.

It is not there yet, but at least it's super fast, I guess.

> Sonnet 5 is arguably the most cost ineffective model to ever be released

One word: Haiku

Although maybe that was competitive when released? I don't recall, but it's an expensive, outdated model now.

Agreed

> more than half its price

Less than half its price.

More than 50% discount.

Google is not currently in the lead for maximum model capability, but it is still very competitive (or even best) in the multidimensional capability, cost, and speed frontier.

Claude Sonnet 5 is such a garbage model, so not sure what that says about Google's new best model.

I wouldn't doubt GPT 4.6 Luna being in the top left quadrant's center on the Cost per Intelligence Index is not concerning for Liang Wenfeng. You have to remember DeepSeek v4 flash even though a bit cheaper, does not have vision abilities, which is a big draw for agentic tasks.

I admire DeepSeek's openness, but even they have been raising prices after their discounts.

They haven't raised prices though the plan was to increase it with peak hour usage for V4 Pro GA release, they didn't do that, so no price increases there I believe.

As for vision yeah it sucks but Luna is also 2x input and 1.5x output for 1M context...

That's around 0.4 in/1.8 out

DSv4 is wayyy cheaper.

And it's open now you have Luna at home if you have a decent set of GPUs you can run this on 2Sparks or one very expensive Mac or just like 6-8 5090s..

I know most folks can't afford it I am working on making it viable to rent shared hosting the biggest issue is data leak and prompt injection attacks with shared hosting. (Since the server owner connects to your main system via the coding agent)

I guess using a ZDR provider is good enough for now.

> I wouldn't doubt GPT 4.6 Luna being in the top left quadrant's center on the Cost per Intelligence Index is not concerning for Liang Wenfeng.

The leaked interview has him saying it doesn't matter... as much as open source doesn't matter. There's enough in it for everyone right now and they aren't after everything.

Perspective: DeepSeek doesn't have enough infrastructure to serve their target customers already.

Can you post the link to the leaked interview? From what I understand he has been pretty tight lipped for a guy who has a larger stake worth more in his company than Dario does in Anthropic.

The culture is different, if you tried pulling any of the shit Sam and Dario do on a daily basis in China you'd get your wings clipped pretty quickly, much smarter to keep your head down as much as possible.

And maybe that's not a bad thing tbh because look at the state of the US right now

> The culture is different

That's partly. I'd say the other part is it's an open secret they have "illegal" Nvidia GPUs and other "secrets". There's a common understanding not talk about these things because it'd hurt everyone collectively.

Gpt 5.6 Luna cache read is $0.02 per mtok

V4 flash cache read is $0.0028 per mtok

That's not "a bit cheaper", just saying

That's a good point. Yeah their caching input is insane.

DeepSeek v4 API rates are only matched by Xiaomi's MiMo v2.5 series. Quite similar in capabilities too (at least before today's update).

According to the leaked call transcript, DeepSeek is working on vision for V4. Not sure when it will land though.
