Do you mean Ken Thompson? There is apparently a famous talk named "Reflections on Trusting Trust"by Ken Thompson - the one where he describes how a compiler can be tricked to insert a Trojan horse that reproduces itself even when the source is "clean".

I think K&R (Ken Thompson and Dennis Ritchie) are very close in my brain's feature space. Reference [1] is the article you are referring to. An AI trojan could conceivably insert itself into the model weights / training data on systems it had access to.

I installed this on my testing server. Everything worked. It needed 13.3-U1 so I performed a manual tar upgrade/update because I was still on an older release on the boot USB. https://download-core.sys.truenas.net/13.3/STABLE/U1/

I didn't use the latest U2 because FreeCORE didn't ask for that.

I have not tested; sh freecore-enroll.sh --revert or RETURN TO 13.3 from the web admin interface.

Evidence has not been destroyed. And if we are using that analogy the key to the locked box has been thrown away. No evidence was destroyed.

The phone was wiped, no?

No. The encrypted data is still there, just the keys were wiped.

Every article I've seen says "deleted"

Sorry, that’s correct. The other one is an internal one not released yet that also have a full Tailscale server written in Rust.
