Even Google itself stated (internally at least) that nobody has a moat https://newsletter.semianalysis.com/p/google-we-have-no-moat...

Wasnt it just some dude writing a doc? That's hardly a Google (The Company)'s position.

If anyone other than NVIDIA has a moat, they for sure never talk about it

NVIDIA doesn't have a moat either. Everyone and their uncle is working on or acquiring ASICs for LLMs.

You could say they have a consumer market moat but all it takes is for a Cerebras to release a USB-C plug-and-play appliance.

Generally, a moat is equivalent to anticompetitive power in some way. It's never a good idea to say "we have a moat".

I built something similar, but for in-app Issue Reporting, as my macOS app needed a way for users to file bugs without having to create an issue in GitHub https://github.com/kushalpandya/Sluice

While PlayStation is on a streak of one bad decision after the other, I'd give them benefit of the doubt here.

Kojima likes to work unhinged on grand ideas with a tall budget which may stick or not stick at all. So may be Sony didn't like the direction of Physint and decided to dump it.

While Sony may be wrong in judging the game in its early stage, the replacement publisher, Microsoft, has solid track record of terrible taste at creating exclusives.

This situation seems very similar to Konami's frustrations with him a decade ago. Don't get me wrong, Konami too seemed hell-bent on driving into the ground, but Kojima does have a reputation for going over time and over budget. In a world of tightening belts, I wonder if Sony execs felt the same frustration as their counterparts did. We'll see how he fairs with Xbox, which seems even more eager than the other two to shutter things these days.

Which of his ideas didn't stick? Pretty sure the guy hasn't had a failure in recent memory.

They're saying on Reddit that DS2's sales fell well below expectations, which wouldn't surprise me. I liked the game a lot but it was a sequel to an already fairly niche game (that I liked even more).

Success is measured in profit for companies and it seems that the numbers of what games like Death Stranding cost compared to what they earned back are not available, so it likely isn't looking rosy.

I'm seeing claims of a cost in the $100M to $300M range, while seeing earnings in the $60M to $120M (as of 2025) range. That's $20M plus in the best case, which is still underwhelming.

This may be the case - although none of us have access to the real figures.

It's also impossible to judge success relative to marketing budget, how well the game was pushed by Sony etc.

Clearly a critical success and an objectively good game however.

Death Stranding and Death Stranding 2 come to mind.

Death Stranding 1 at least was a fairly large commercial success. 5 million copies sold, critical darling, and a hugely original put at doing something new.

He was also facing cancellation at Sony, so it's plausible (if not likely) that he had to accept less favorable terms from Microsoft.

Hopefully we won't get another MGS:V situation where the last part of the game is just kind of missing.

The macOS installer is not notarized, and while adding an exception in Gatekeeper exists, not everyone would be willing to do that, especially currently when even the app source is unavailable.

Apple charges $99/year to be able to notarize a app. Plus, it has one years long bug that any random Apple developer account can get stuck in, and then, you just can't get it notarized. Have a look at this thread: https://github.com/electron/notarize/issues/205

I do agree that notarizing it would make installing much easier.

Also, source code is coming day after tomorrow.

India (central govt.) also doesn't tax farmers even when they've made bumper profits from their produce. The moment a political party even mentions of taxing rich farmers, their politics is over.

Basically country is going to shits purely due to votebank politics, and this is true across party lines no matter who is in power.

Do rich farmers really have enough strength in numbers to outvote other populations in India?

They certainly wield power to mobilise poor farmers, leading to anarchy.

Highly recommend reading about Farm Bills that govt. had to take back even when surveys by Supreme Court showed that over 85% farmers across the country were in favor of those bills and wanted them turned into laws.

A large number of politicians are farmers. So...

The attitude partly affects GNOME too, any time you'd constructively criticize it on places like their Issue tracker or r/gnome, their defenders would come with pitchforks at you. Glad I moved to KDE nearly a decade ago.

Gnome does UX and UI very well, though.

This has been my work outside of work, which I spend most of my weekends on. It has gotten enough downloads (23k+) and traction to motivate me to continue.

This is fantastic and exactly what I needed. Thank you!
