Special shout-out to HN-member, luka! After finding me online, he diligently helped me regain access to my account! As of just now I have logged into my gmail account!
So all's well that ends well. It sure helps to know where to find smart and considerate people that can actually help, like on HN. I don't know what I would've done had I not had that option.
Now I just need to verify myself with my brand new phone which is used and there's no info about the previous owner. So now I'm into chapter 2 of my phone adventure. That's a lot better than it was when I made this post!
As an old curmudgeon I recoil at any service I can't interact with sans-phone. I hardly use mine for anything.
Just be glad your phone number is tied to your account, if you lose the number itself you are royally screwed, and basically anyone who gets your old number owns all your accounts now.
Same, it is kind of strange. Back in 2005 I was one of the first to carry the full internet on my phone and now I am leading the charge to avoid having to carry the internet in my pocket.
If your product or service requires a phone, I just don't do business with you. I know I sound archaic recommending this, but we (as a society) need to push back on your phone being the key to your life.
My phone is no more special than my laptop, however this requires an incredible amount of inconvenience for most people along with the constant social pressure to carry a cellphone. As you can imagine, I do not have many friends these days.
I never understood why people would bring their phones in public. From getting stolen, lost or broken to the tracking and border accessing your social media accounts, personal photos and bank information it makes very little sense when no one actual calls anyone anymore.
> It sounds like you solved the problem of losing access to society by losing access to society.
Perhaps, but frankly I have been more on the lookout for people like me. Natural filter for compatibility?
> Have you considered having backups instead? Carry a physical credit card, make sure you have a backup phone uncharged at home ready for a swap?
I mean, I carry a wallet. Most vendors and society still take cash or card. Where the real friction comes in is staying connected to a community. Everyone wants to keep social connections virtual for some odd reason. As a remote worker I definitely get the virtues of remote interaction, but sometimes meeting people in person has benefits. It does not have to be all-or-nothing and it feels like we are moving to an all-or-nothing digital way of life.
When I dropped my landline after more than 40 years, I transferred the number to a flip phone. This number is also used my family members as a backup phone number for 2FA and voice. Everyone has access to voice mail and can leave messages for others if a phone is lost, broken or stolen.
This site is a lot like how I remember ultimate guitar, being that you can look up tabs and access them. I hope people keep uploading more tabs because ultimate still has a larger volume
I've had some light-sensitivity issues for as long as a remember. So I always get glasses with transitions. On computer though I've always been using flux [0] since it came out. I know that now a lot of OSes are supporting some kind of night mode, but I really like how there are some different parameters you can adjust in flux. And it's free.

I've discovered, for my part, that wearing yellow glasses works even better than f.lux when I'm working in an environment where I can't control the ambient lighting.
I would be interested to test it. Melodyne also supports something like stem splitting where it can work on a master FWIR. But it would be interesting to see how this fares on non-vocal instruments and how the sound is like, even if it only works on isolated tracks.
I'm also wondering if you've considered some music theory functions like for example highlighting the midi grid along to some scale, which would allow "snap to" (next in key note). If you're curious, I have familiarity with this end of things so feel free to pick my brain.
