Yea, there was even that idea to launch 1000s of satellites into LEO on a reusable rocket system. Crazy. How did people fall for that? There's not even that many satellites in total today.

It is indeed difficult to tell in advance (and sometimes after the fact) which of his ideas are sensible and which are nonsense.

Recall that while he managed to hire the right people to get reusable rockets cheap enough for Starlink, it was also the case that in 2016 he said that SpaceX was aiming to use the 2018 Mars launch window for what is now Starship, and also that some time around 2018 it would be possible to summon your Tesla car from the other side of the country and it would find its way to you autonomously and only stop for charging.

Its not difficult, people are selfish, so they lie for their own advantage.

Amongst his big pile of failures, his two real successes (EVs and specifically the Falcon series of rockets) were also things people dismissed as announced, and in some cases continue to dismiss.

Unless you're counting the ongoing dismissals of those as examples of "they lie for their own advantage"?

On the other hand, while every brain scientist I've heard dismisses Neuralink, every civil engineer dismisses TBC, and bluntly the shiny prospectuses for each of the moon based factories and the Earth-based Optimus factories are on the wrong side of the laws of thermodynamics, I was surprised to see Solar City's roof shingles fail in the marketplace.

Are you sure EVs are a good thing ?

Enabling people to continue the stupid habit of commuting for hours a day in a car is not smart or good. Sitting in traffic for a day every week is not productive and it is not healthy for the commuter or their family because of the consequences.

Missed the part in July when the token bill starts rolling in

It's electrek, 95% chance any front page Tesla negative story is from them.

You are still the one operating the computer. It's up to you to keep your eyes on the monitor at all times ready to intervene if it does anything illegal.

A truth that in practice does not seem to hold up once your valuation passes a certain threshold.

Wrong. AI companies is still legally liable for anything their models do when they operate them. There is no special exception for them. But the fact is that not every potential crime results in litigation. Many crimes are only prosecuted if the wronged party actually wants to sue, and often that doesn't happen.

I admire your optimism. But until we see these companies prosecuted for the crimes they have committed out in the open (like massive copyright improvement), I'm not going to hold my breath that they will ever be held to account for anything they do.

I have a DECT headset and I would never go back to Bluetooth. The range, reliability and the quality of modern DECT is great. Just make sure you get one with ultra wide band or similar otherwise you end up with cordless phone quality.

Nvidia is at this time a pretty well run company tech wise. They are going to keep iterating on the inferencing hardware stack over the next five years too.

The only way I see in which Nvidia can catch up is by buying Cerebras.

Isn't the act of not offering something in NY = to not offering it nationwide?

Holistic...chooses one single state....

Open the weights.

If I recall most of the open weight models have provisions about large scale commercial hosting. So probably licensing issues.
