Both companies are awful to customers. But the Oracle cloud product is truly terrible.

I had significant free credits for their cloud product. It was not even useful at a 0 pricepoint. I had to escalate repeatedly until I was doing screenshares with very high level engineers, to show them that their VM's, the more core offering, literally would not start.

They did have those Ampere arm chips which we mildly interesting for a hot minute a few years ago but seem to have disappeared somewhere.

I think we are in agreement here.

How can I hide or move the ram program window? It's blocking the breadboard.

In the meantime you can tap the layer icon on the bottom left and disable “displays”. In a few minutes, I’ll have the fix deployed to avoid blocking the screen

Sorry about that, last minute bug, pushing a fix now to hide it on small screens.

Fix deployed.

The article doesn't go into it but G B Shaw went so far as inventing an alternate orthography for English called Shavian -- publishing a book printed in it -- and then commissioned another alphabet by Kingley Read called Quikscript. Both alphabets are phonetic.

> In 2024, PHP underwent its first external security audit in years. The PHP Foundation secured funding from the Sovereign Tech Agency to organize this audit ...

Well that's your problem right there! There are trillion dollar companies profiting off the back of open source projects without supporting the projects adequately. Why should they be scraping for funding for basic table stakes like audits?

Evidently it was an ESP32 with a wifi antenna. So it could instead/also have streamed to server. Or just used wifi for C+C. Total outlay for information worth millions to someone? Under $20.

Also: there aren't any really old iPads: Apple forces obsolescence. They could unlock the old devices and let users run whatever on there, but they prefer the ewaste route. Also because fuck you give us more money.

(ignoring the snark but valid point)

To the contrary, innovation is proceeding full speed, despite patents. The only thing patents are doing is 1. enriching the lawyers on creation, 2. restraining law abiding innovators in country (meaning all other countries will proceed to ignore it anyway), 3. give the advantage to all other countries, and 4. enrich the lawyers again if they can find one of the in-country infringements to pursue (again ignoring all the others).

None of these outcomes is beneficial. The system is broken and antiquated. Ditch it.

5. Prevent the consumer-friendly pricing effects of competition.

Oooh, good point. I bet the pharmas love this. Get that expensive, foot-dragging doctor out of the sales loop and write several prescriptions for every patient encounter! The KPI goes from minimizing MD minutes to maximizing med profits.

I disagree: anywhere in the ocean is easier logistics than crawler trains over land: ship it there and chuck it overboard. They do that to install oil rigs all the time (but that's more like float it there and sink it). Eg: https://www.wired.com/2014/07/dockwise-vanguard-shipping

Yeah, but now imagine the cost of putting large active electronics 4,000 meters down on the sea floor and keeping it running, and getting the data back off it... The cost of running the drill rig seen in the photos of the icecube detector would be a fraction of that.

That’s also a thing, e.g. in the Mediterranean.

why would "ship it there and chuck overboard" be easier than "crawler train it there and chuck overboard"?

Because shipping is easier than trucking at subzero temperatures on roads constantly being covered in snow.

Also, we've been shipping by water much longer than we've been trucking things on wheels, because the tech is easier: get on floaty wood and paddle.
