But nvidia can sell to anyone, right?

They'll take a heavy hit stock wise, and might be an LLM company through all their shady financial constructions to keep the music going by propping up demand. But in the end, nvidia as a company has a place even when the frontier labs go bankrupt. Some other company will take their place. Worst case it'll be like the cable companies in the end 90s who found themselves out of work because they overbuilt for dotcom

> Here's an example from the last four years: Lula implemented a tax on financial operations, our elected congress blocked it, then he went to the supreme court and they rammed it down our throats. Yes, the supreme court raised taxes. Not a single person voted for those judges, by the way. This is the Venezuela governance model.

Do you have a source to read up on this?

Surely they're ruling on whether the executive branch has the power to do XYZ, right? So they don't directly endorse a policy, they decide who can do what?

You see the same in the US, with the decisions largely going the other way.

Lula writes up a sort of decree raising taxes on financial operations such as BRL/USD conversions.

Our elected congress blocked it. That is their role.

Supreme court swoops in and "reestablishes" the decree.

Through this simple mechanism, president can bypass our elected congress and senate, and rule monocratically like a king.

The supreme court judges are appointed by the president himself. Lula will stack the court with four additional justices loyal to him by the end of the next four years. He will own 70% of the court. He can do anything.

Bolsonaro was our last chance to fix this shit. Plan was to elect a right wing senate and president, then impeach all of those judges. We managed to elect the senators, but not the president. If we impeach the judges now, it just buys Lula even more seats in the court. It's pretty much over now.

> So they don't directly endorse a policy

That is exactly what they do.

> If we impeach the judges now, it just buys Lula even more seats in the court.

There’s a clear right-wing/centrist majority in Congress, so Lula’s Supreme Court nominations will not be that partisan.

Many Justices do need to be investigated and impeached, and it’s our job now to pressure congressmen in that regard, and then pressure again to make sure future nominees are much better.

For some reason, I seriously doubt the senate is going to move a finger against the judges. I just have a bad feeling about this. I don't think they're going to do anything anymore.

I really hope you're right though. If even a single judge suffers consequences, this election will have been a major win.

probably not in the first 2 years with the current Senate president but then next it is less clear. There are 3 conservative judges also involved in the banco Master scandal case so let's see how it ends.

> Our elected congress blocked it. That is their role.

So in a Republic, the President has the right to issue decrees. That's what makes it the executive branch. Congress can make laws that block specific things but they would need to pass legislation? And assuming this power is granted on the constitution, they can't change this (easily).

> That is exactly what they do.

They rule if the president can issue that decree, no? They don't have the ability to change any of that?

This works well when the answer to the question is a number or something else definitive. When the answer is fuzzy, how do you compare 3 different responses? They'll all be different

What scenarios were you thinking?

> But I think the hardest thing to replace is Active Directory, Outlook, all the integration with Windows, all the admins certified on Microsoft technology

Nah, it's the users. Those are resistant to change even more. When they miss deadlines that they can now blame, sometimes rightfully, on the software change

This can't be the reason because current Microsoft products change constantly.

> or even win re-election

I mean, I would like to know what percentage of people makes an informed decision when voting for a judge for example.

A lot of them run unopposed anyway. And if they don't, I have no idea how you would figure out what candidate you like best.

Heck, in the US even the big political positions seem to be largely void of 'ideas'. It's mostly attack ads paid for by shady sources through PACs. That's where the majority of the votes are flipped/won...

Why? What makes you say that? In favor of what?

The models aren't writing new applications in C# unless you direct it to.

Why wouldn't you specify the tech stack for new applications?

Do you really just ask the model to pick any backend stack and pray it works?

Not saying I do or I like it, but I suspect that is the trajectory. You don't ask the model to choose the backend, it's just not an important descision for someone looking to make a web app pop up in their browser. So at very least whatever the model picks will be the entry point for most people into software development.

Surely we can't make fossil fuel pay for externalities, right!!! That's not how addiction works

If Facebook stopped working today, would anything happen? Besides people having a lot of new free time on on their hands?

Yes, people would seek out those services elsewhere because clearly there's a demand for them. I find this attitude very paternalistic. Why do you care how other people choose to spend their time? Is it the technology you don't like, or the people who use it?

I'm trying to point out that we're talking about 'entertainment' nothing more.

So when we talk about what they contributed to society, I think it's mostly that. It's not some life altering service in any benevolent way. I would think it's more likely life altering in the negative way. It started out as a useful thing, it turned into a monster turning addiction into profit.

> Why do you care how other people choose to spend their time?

I don't, we were discussing what it added to society.

> Is it the technology you don't like, or the people who use it?

It is the long list of abuses of people's weaknesses for profit.

It's actually more than entertainment, you obviously don't use it so don't know.

heaps of small venues would see their online presence deleted overnight. the product fits a use case even if you don't like it.

Sure, but let's not pretend that that's their main function. There are plenty of good alternatives for this.

No, not really. Read the entire discussion here, it's a bunch of nerds prescribing what is best for common people, it's exhausting.

I'm not defending FB practices, I'm stating it has value beyond the hyperbole.

Come on, you're saying there's no alternative for

> heaps of small venues would see their online presence deleted overnight

Static hosting has been a solved problem for decades. Plenty of options for small businesses at a negligible cost per month.

so instead of a facebook account (free) they now need to hire someone to develop a solution (with built-in instant messaging), host, optimize for search, maintain the website...

Shifting when they consume electricity to take advantage of price differences during the day?

I would think that might have an impact on the temperature inside said fridges.

Yes, fridges don't have constant temperatures anyway. So you can shift when they run around a bit.

> but 300+ in a single day several times a year, well I bet it is quite a few.

And this hasn't been a problem in an EV for years. That's a single charge for almost all EVs now. And with fast chargers being almost everywhere, especially along highways, I doubt the actual time taken is very different.

If you don't take a single ~20 minute break in a 5 hour drive, you can beat it. I'm not sure that's healthy or safe though. If you have children this isn't even an option IMHO.

> Will this take me and my family where we need to go is a more important consideration than the daily commute

Totally your decision obviously. It's also why you see so many trucks and all terrain vehicles drive around for the 1 time a year that might be useful. The rest of the year you just pay for that in gas/maintenance/parking ease etc. Again, your decision and I'm not saying you should change, just playing Devils advocate
