You can already do this with built in android features, on any phone. It only works against cursory examination and not against your phone being plugged in to forensic devices.

My theory is that they're trying to counter simulated phones. In the old days fraudsters would use their stolen credentials on a windows RDP rented from someone who sells fraud infra with clean IPs. I wouldn't be surprised if fraudsters have tried to develop an android based VM meant to look like a legitimate customer endpoint.

Though the most effective way to cut out that kind of fraud is to stop using SMS for authentication, which banks don't seem to be interested in doing.

Which is silly because you can get an attested phone for like $50 and factory reset it between "customers"

What's actually used is banks of old, used phones with broken screens, controlled via usb. They can be had for rather cheap.

It depends on what's being studied. There are mice studies on diet which obviously don't carry over to human beings since we don't have similar digestive systems. It may be true (arguable) that all research data is of some benefit, but don't expect people to be as excited about mouse research as human research.

How do they get the alzheimers mice? Article doesn't say. Usually in studies they take healthy mice and induce the condition artificially. That can be a confounding factor since the condition isn't induced in the specimens we care about (human beings). Is it even the same condition?

It doesn't matter how they give mice alzheimers, or any other condition. That's just part of controlling variables to test for one thing. It also doesn't matter that they were fed processed food rather than having to find things in the wild, unless the effect of diet was the specific thing they were examining.

It does not matter how they give Alzheimer's to a lab mouse providing they give Alzheimer's to a lab mouse – not a different disorder that happens to have the symptoms of Alzheimer's.

There are already sushi restaurants like this and have been for years. You tap the items you want on an ipad that stays with the table. A robot with an LCD cat-face comes out with trays of your food and stops in front of your table. It's a novelty, big whoop. Before this, they still had the ipads for orders and the staff just delivered the food/drink.

It's not like you need a touch screen anymore though, chatbots are good enough you should be able to read off your order from a paper menu just like at a normal restaurant. Proper tooling is required to avoid the chatbot taking orders for something silly. Now, having a microphone enabled bot does bring up the question of voice recordings. Sometimes people go to restaurants to talk about sensitive subjects and don't want the whole conversation recorded and sent to a data broker.

People may perceive not having human wait staff as "cheaping out", and there are lots of status-related reasons people go out to eat. Backend is possibly more ripe for automation because people don't see it. Lots of companies building dedicated in-franchise assemblylines for submarine sandwiches or poki bowls.

Vegas has a "robot bar" where the robo arm can prepare something like 50 different cocktails. The robot is cool but the menu software was horribly put together and it crashed before I could finish putting together an order. The human attendant came over to tell me I'm not allowed to hack the robot. Bad software saved me $15, thanks.

I went to that robot bar. It failed to put any alcohol in my drink. Pathetic. Human had to step in.

Step 1: Run proxy service to protect websites from denial of service attacks

Step 2: Give DoS attackers a "report" button they can use to deny service to websites, and provide a hosting service for the DoS attackers

Step 3: ????

Step 4: Profit!

Better sandboxing. If one of the programs you apt-get is hacked through supply chain compromise or something, it has full access to all the goodies in your user profile. There are distros that attempt to implement sandboxing but in those distros your browser can't really be jailed properly. Qubes has tighter isolation than android does, but is slower and too much of a hassle for your typical employee or relative.

Android is pretty slick overall and the user experience is simpler and more familiar to people than Windows or Linux (even if they're an iPhone user). You'd be surprised how many people don't really use PCs.

It depends. They figured out that more than about 15% soy in pig feed gives the pigs cancer and other diseases. Soy isn't just nutrients, there are pesticides the plant produces which can cause issues. I think fermenting soy into tofu deals with a lot of that, but I don't know.

Bugs have the chitin, which some animals (like us) don't digest super well. You also need more than just the protein, so why not let your chickens eat the bugs? They're real happy to do it and it makes the chicken taste better.

Bugs as a protein source in agriculture is probably underutilized in the west. It may be less economical today, because growing corn and soy is subsidized while breeding insects isn't. In some areas of Adrica, entrepreneurs collect waste food and even run public dry toilets to feed insects like black soldier fly. BSF is easier to keep clean than many other insects because the adults don't eat.

Tofu isn't fermented. (Stinky tofu, natto and soy sauce are, though.)

Have you ever looked at those studies? The leading one involves them intentionally giving mice cancer. Completely irrelevant for human biology.

There's a christian cult with a strong bias for vegetarianism that does a lot of medical science publishing. Some of their studies provide useful information, but some of them exist just to create a headline and push a message. Don't be duped.

Please post this on Show HN with a clickbait title about farts, I look forward to it.

Whey powder was about turning a waste stream into profit, but it is a highly digestible protein with clear benefits. Human breastmilk is mostly whey with a bit of casein. Cow's milk is mostly casein with a bit of whey. While it's true that most americans are too sedentary to need the protein, they also don't eat whey powder, nor do they really understand why people do. Probably because of all those marketers and shysters confusing the issue trying to hock a product.

If you're concerned with health, ignore any advice from competition bodybuilders. They all take steroids and will often make things up to avoid admitting they take illegal drugs. Some also mislead others to give themselves a leg up. Arnold Schwarzenegger was known for pulling that one a few times.

A steak is better than whey powder because it contains a multitude of other aminos and nutrients. But who's gonna stick a steak in a blender?
