I am mostly at the same point right now you are, but I think in the future with those "gas town" ideas we might be managing even more agents each.
Also, I've recently begun experimenting with specific tasked agents running on a cron like timer for non-dev work. (checking emails, managing small business tasks, etc). Once I started using Claude code in this way, the number of agents I can imagine running has skyrocketed. So I guess what I am saying is that I look forward even cheaper tokens going forward.
That and also that agreements can evolve with time and also within a discussion, so a basic level of agreement is necessary, but complete consensus about the meaning of all words is unnecessary and often unproductive to communications held in good faith.
I honestly haven't done enough thinking on it, but it doesn't strike me a priori as ridiculous to limit people's ownership of these nation-sized companies, and to possibly limit the size of the company as well
If it was illegal for someone to own enough Amazon stock that they had a net worth of larger than some limit you think is reasonable, then either the government would own and run every major corporation, or those corporations (like Amazon) simply wouldn't exist. I don't think I or ordinary non-rich people in general are better off in that world.
Who's talking about the government? The most obvious natural owners of a company to me are the employees, who are actually the ones responsible for its success.
Yeah Strands powers thousands of agents at Amazon, so we all really benefit from being open source thanks to improvements/github issues from the community. Our focus is making agents run easily and reliably in prod
That's a different phrase. "Pace yourself" is reflexive; "pacing the frontier" has the frontier as an object, but in that sense it only means to set the speed, nothing to do with slowing down.
The current situation with AI is that everyone is going as fast as possible. So, we can logically eliminate speeding up because it's impossible by definition. And we can practically eliminate staying the same speed because why make a big fanfare and coin a special term to announce that you're keeping the status quo. By process of elimination, it must mean slowing down.
The word can also mean to “keep up with” or “lead” so a downward direction isn’t the only way to go even in an “as fast as possible” scenario. If the frontier is outpacing them, they could be saying they’re going to go faster. They could also be sharing the intention to go faster in order to lead.
It's a good list, but "alignment" is much more targetted. I attended a workshop with researchers from OpenAI and Anthropic also present, where the objective was to hash out what the problems in alignment even are. This, it turned out, was extraordinarily difficult.
The problems with alignment are to do with how we define and search for this vague notion when it is mathematically ill-posed at present.
I was gonna write "Implement the three laws of robotics", but then I remembered that the point of the short stories is that there are a number of loopholes...
Indeed, I just wanted to try out Gemini Deep Research with their gated access to Reddit. The next step would be for me to use Claude Code to load each URL and write it's own analysis - in this case I just offloaded some of the searching to free Gemini rather than burn my paid Claude tokens. That being said, I trust Reddit comments just about as much as I trust AI analysis on topics like this (solar leasing company evaluation)
