My 'smart' fridge came with an app. Which only function is to perform diagnostics on the fridge when something goes wrong. A while ago, the fridge stopped cooling. I ran the diagnostics, which reported everything as A-OK. A service call found that the compressor had died. So, yeah, they cannot even do the basics, let alone something actually useful.

Reading Bukowski often makes me yearn for a life that could have been. An often miserable, always irresponsible, but often wonderful life. Of course, his real life was probably far less glamorous than he makes it sound, but, man, did he have a way with words.

Yes! It will give me Andy, ABE! abs, and's, anything but friggen "and"!

And’s! Fucking and’s! Every goddamned time, regardless of the fact that I have never once intentionally typed and’s (until now, which probably means that it’ll now either appear constantly or never again).

This drives me crazy. Sometimes I'll just put the phone down and move to a proper keyboard to type what I want. It definitely makes me use my phone less, maybe that's a good thing overall.

I have been struggling to get serial comms going with a TESmart KVM because the ethernet interface is stupid and I lost comms after a misconfiguration and there is no way to factory reset the device. That was not going any better and I ended up purchasing a null modem adapter (at an eye-wateringly high price) because of course I threw away a drawer full of serial adapters a decade ago.

The person I am replying to is an obvious troll, but it is worth mentioning that there is very little to "test in court". Basic copyright law says that you cannot copy someone else's code and distribute software based thereon. *GPL* provides a workaround, provided that you follow the terms of the license. If a court were to invalidate all of AGPL, the default fallback would simply be that nobody is able to distribute the software.

Trolling requires subterfuge, in an effort to draw someone into a debate on false pretenses, so that they can be ridiculed for, as they say, eating the pasta.

My comment is and was completely sincere; I am not trolling. It legitimately boggles my mind how people read the text of the AGPL and don’t see that it’s plainly and obviously a EULA (which makes it nonfree).

I’ve even written about it before: https://sneak.berlin/20250720/the-agpl-is-nonfree/

I am not a lawyer but I’m not sure if that fail-closed situation is how it would work; presumably some parts of it could be found to be invalid without invalidating the entire license? It’s not my field, I am just guessing.

Hating the people who made for AGPL for political reasons is not an argument

It depends on the building use. In residential buildings, people do tend to go to / from ground but in my building the parking garage has entrances on levels 1-4, the gym on 3-4 and the garden on 5. That distorts the traffic pattern.

The company where I work occupies an entire office building, so there is lots of travel between floors.

I have been using the feature for ages, and it really does work, but it is by no means 'hidden'. It's just an iOS feature.

>but it is by no means 'hidden'

To the average user, any feature that is not enabled by default is effectively hidden. Most people do not dig deeply into the settings of their tech devices beyond aesthetic customization.

This is why defaults matter, a lot. Settings are for power users, defaults are for everyone else.

pretty sure it was on by default for me

On iOS, it's off by default (like many settings under "accessibility").
