I tested these last week, and they got me about 90% of the way on two custom test containers (Forgejo and Postgres). I especially like the fact that they are a lot like microVMS instead of pure containers. Given that these are pure Windows services, it eases a lot of non-technical senior managers minds in my highly regulated environment.
That said, this is just another example of Microsoft's extend and extinguish past behavior.
I wonder if this is due to Microsoft pushing forward with wslc in the past week or so.
I tried pure wslc for a project or two this past week. It got me 90% of the way but not all the way. Still pretty impressive, even if it is another example of extend and extinguish.
They operate on the principle "what you don't know can't hurt you," they turn completely black and opaque at the first sign of trouble, so you can't see anything that might alarm you.
Grievance politics sells quite well. When AfD backers argue it's Western Germany's fault, it's easy for a lot of people to climb on board.
Heck, AfDs own platform argues there should be more Russian language in the schools and Russian cooperation across the board. That on its face says an awful lot.
Germans are our long term neighbors and generally friends. As "Pravda" wrote at the end of WW2, "Hitlers come and go, but the German people remains". It's about time they take their country back.
I hope we see "de-smartification" conversion kits that replace the electronics with more straightforward (and repairable) offline equivalents. The ultimate AV.
What a puritanical response.
By your argument, anything that could be abused is verboten. Feel free to live (and argue that way). I'll do the opposite. I'll trust to documented, well researched data rather than someone's "Trust me bro" reasoning.
I'm glad to see the competition; nothing provokes meaningful change without it. Not surprised at Nvidia's blatant fabrications though; more of the same we've seen time and again (Superchip anyone, with 2+ year old designs).
That said, this is just another example of Microsoft's extend and extinguish past behavior.
