Local stores around here no longer carry blu-ray media since sales have fallen off and few people even own the players. Bought a bunch of clearance discs last year but that might be it.

Fewer companies are making the players as well.

I have several Blu-ray players from thrift stores. All they needed were cheap compatible remotes.

A lot of computer hacker types get a ham license because it’s relatively easy to do with a bit of studying. Then you have more flexibility around working with radios and also learn how to stay out of trouble. Like there’s a lot of interesting digital signal projects you can do with a raspberry pi and an sdr.

I use small local models regularly for coding. Worst I've seen is destructive git checkouts (can be fixed with git history) and maybe overwriting results of long regression tests unprompted.

This is the kind of thing where everything will be fine until it rm -rf:s everything you care about, and then you will be shocked that it never did that before. This has already happened publicly to hundreds of people, in private probably thousands. Be better than them and learn from the mistakes of others.

The actually sane default is to treat it like a junior trainee you would never trust with rights to anything critical. Use existing operating system facilities, namely user accounts and file permissions, to make everything it doesn't need protected from writes, and everything it shouldn't blithely broadcast to the world like private data and keys, also protected against reads.

In my experience (mainly claude and Gemini argon, less so with gemini 3.1 pro), it's a bit worse. A junior dev won't hit "yes, delete" so confidently and think "I can just remake it" and proceed to ~~lie through its teeth~~ apologize 2 seconds later.

Completely agree with you. I primarily use AI coding agents within a container on a dedicated computer. I’d be annoyed if it somehow broke out of its container and managed to rm -rf /. I’d probably lose the last uncommitted changes, and have this setup the dev environment again. Nbd, but annoying.

My actual ham radio club mostly chats on discord and email. We don't even show up much at the weekly nets. Radio is mostly for participating in events like pota, contesting and emmcomm.

Eggs do not lay eggs. The goose was not valued.

AI will help humans eggvolute!

Yes, but given the 3-5 year lifespan of the server infra capex, the separation becomes less meaningful. Better to count the entire TCO or discounted cashflow accounting for the rapid asset depreciation.

I’m Canadian and work in healthcare. I have a dedicated travel phone that I move my SIM card to whenever I travel to the US.

I carry a letter from my work explaining that I’m not allowed to travel with electronic devices potentially containing confidential patient information in case a recently wiped phone raises any flags

I haven’t done that since around 2012. But it’s rough since you get cut off from family and friends who exclusively use social media to stay in touch. Because I don’t use Instagram or fb, there are so many local events and opportunities I keep missing out on.

Ah, but this clearly falls under parody. No reasonable person would assume this depicts a genuine ikea store. That said, ikea could’ve just granted permission to use their trademark in a horror parody game. That would’ve been a fun ikea promotion rather than stoke animosity

Yes it unfortunately was. Because the SCP lore this game recreates refers to a horror scenario set inside an infinite inescapable ikea store.
