Thats what the copyright lobby wants you to think, but honestly, if i copy your digital item, im not stealing it as the original still exists in your possession. That you might infringe on content made by someone else because you copied them, sure but its not stealing.

What do you do for a living?

Please, give it another 6 months and they catch up. The American labs are currently trying everything they can to block others instead of advancing their models, trying to build an artificial moat. The American models are not that great, they are good, and they have a lot of agentic workflows in the back, but its basically a hardware limitation at this point. Once the HW makers catch up, and we can move away from the Nvidia monopoly, things will speed up quite a lot IMO.

Just one more release cycle bro, I swear

We've been hearing the line about them only being a few months behind for a year now, during which time O/A have grown their revenue like 10x, haven't they?

We've also been hearing we're 6 months from AGI for about three years, and here we are.

"Now, here, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that!"

How is that relevant to this discussion?

Phantom Tollbooth?

Nope, wrong bit of slightly-surreal children's literature. Through the Looking-Glass and what Alice Found There by C L Dodgson, otherwise known as Lewis Carroll.

Those are two different things. The market is expanding, so even if competitors are catching up, you can have your own revenue, in absolute terms, grow.

That's fair, I left out a part of what I keep hearing in relation to the open weight models only being a few months behind, which is that they're going to eat the big labs' lunch, but then the big labs keep growing...

> but then the big labs keep growing...

Yeah, I could buy a bigger and bigger vehicle when a new one goes to market, but using a semi-truck to drive myself around would not only be significantly more wasteful but also more inconvenient and limiting compared to a sedan. Very much like advanced closed models vs performant open ones.

And yet the labs keep growing revenue like crazy…

A lot of big enterprise customers are already starting to question their spend and there is more and more pushback in regards to sharing private data with both AI orgs, even with the enterprise agreements in place. There might be growing revenue at the moment, but enterprise finance moves slowly, so the next couple of years will be the deciding factor.

The thing is O/A have been much louder on pacing the frontier, lately.

And yes, open weights are still behind, but are catching up.

Yes but you are someone (i assume because you are on HN) that at least understands this point. There are A LOT of people that use it as their confidant, expecting it to be private. There is a massive education issue going on as its not in the interest of these Corpos to make you fear sharing all your details with them. Because, then you wont get Dot or whatever Anthropic comes up with and share all your personal info with it.

That last part is a big thing, especially in Europe where a lot of their sales have almost stopped as no one wants to drive a nazi car.

AfD seems to be doing a little too well across the sea for me to believe that

They might see a rebound from last year which was a bad year for them but that's likely driven by some pretty aggressive price cuts.

China is actually nearly 3x bigger market for them than Europe and we have clearer numbers on how that's going:

  2019: 45,372
  2020: 137,459
  2021: 320,743
  2022: 439,770
  2023: 603,664
  2024: 657,102
  2025: 625,698
2026 so far has been shaping up to be a huge contraction. Only 316,251 were shipped in the first 8 months. (BYD sold 440k units in August alone)

Problem is, AfD voters also don't want to drive Teslas (not because they disagree with Elon's politics, but because "only hippies drive EVs, patriots drive real cars".)

Musk’s problem is that the intersection of “votes AfD” and “willing and able to buy premium electric vehicle” is relatively small

Tesla has managed to alienate the entire left wing while not enticing the right wing.

> no one wants to drive a nazi car. That explains why VW, Audi, Porsche, Mercedes, and BMW are doing so poorly. You know, those companies actually founded by Hitler. First rule of advertising is claim your week points are your strong points, and the first rule of politicizing is blame everyone else for what you are guilty of.

> as no one wants to drive a nazi car

Volkswagen had €322 billion in revenue last year and was literally in every way founded by the Nazi party.

The requirement for the air-cooled engine in the Beetle came from none other than Mr. Stubby Mustache himself.

the nazi party doesn't exist anymore and their ceo doesn't do nazi salutes

With a small difference of some 90y or whenever VW was founded between that and now, while Musk is doing Hitler salutes in recent years. Other than that, your argument would make sense.

Actually quite interesting that there is no good naming for people from the USA. Its just the patriotic BS that has spewed over there for decades that has lead to USA people believing they are the only Americans :)

The "naming" is Americans.

What a total genius (:

Guess who live in the United Mexican States? You guessed it, Mexicans!

Guess who live in the United States of America? You guessed it - Americans (and a lot of others).

Also despite there being one in every continent, you'd be amazed how many Parisians from France think they are the only ones who ought to use the name. Must be "patriotic BS that has spewed over there for decades"

Well, lets discuss the name? America is a big place, and the USA is small part of it. USA.gov? Good, America.gov? Very political in nature.

.gov is for US government. The US and its citizens are commonly referred to as “Americans”.

The irony is that usa.gov already exists, and is also a website dedicated to where to find information on various government services. But there's no AI on it, so it must be bad.

What a waste, though: two completely separate government websites with the exact same purpose, going about it in different ways. Maybe DOGE should have been more interested in stuff like this, instead of cutting things that ended up hurting people.

At any rate, the demonym for people who live in the US is "American". That's just how it is, has been for decades, and, frankly, arguing against that is what's making it political.

There's nothing more American than having multiple approaches to the same ideals, the great experiment.

Now you can either use AI or the old way. I see no problem with it.

You can, but you need to break the problem into much smaller tasks, then check those answers, and finally have a harness that handles all the context, task breakup, task definitions, and validations each round.

No you dont need to code at 600 w/s BUT at those speeds, you can start doing things like asking multiple different agents the same question and picking the best solution each time without noticing the lag.

So 3x the code review lol. This is similar in concept to how a slot machine leta you choose 1x, 3x 6x lol

The whole point of using the AI systems it to review vast amount of data. They would 100% have access to updated pictures if we as civs can pull that data from public sources. Its not like the school was new, it had existed for over 10 years!!

Not sure what the problem with switching is? When I run out of my kimi session, I just switch model and tell deepseek to continue. Yes I eat the initial cache miss but that's it, no fancy harness required.

You are talking about switching between models, the parent comment was about switching between harnesses. Not the same thing.

I added a skill to OpenCode that tells it how to read old session logs when asked to. Seems like this would be pretty easy to add to most any harness.
