> The scientists said their work, published in the journal Nature, was carried out with independent ethical scrutiny.

oh, I guess there's nothing to be concerned about.

I think you just misread that - the adjective independent refers to ethical, not scrutiny /s

yes, there's even a GNOME shell extension[0] that implements the KDE Connect protocol without needing the official KDE version.

you should report that bug to ccrypt, emacs is getting a lot more strict about lexical binding support (for good reason). it just needs ;; -- lexical-binding: t/nil -- at the top of the file.

do people actually claim LLMs are good with Lisp? all i've seen recently are people frustrated that their model can't seem to balance parentheses.

LLMs are surprisingly good with Lisp dialects. With a caveat - when you give them actual (homoiconic) REPL. It makes little sense treating a Lisp just like any other language, which is roughly the Unix/pipe model - batch-style. Agent spawns process -> reads stdout/stderr -> spawns next process. State lives in-between the calls and in files. Each tool invocation is stateless.

Things get far more interesting when you give an LLM a true Lisp REPL. LLM stops guessing and starts empirically analyzing current state of things and produces working solution faster, costing far less tokens.

Like if you ask any experienced dev to write a Clojure program giving them nothing but a notepad.exe, they'd immediately fail without structural editing and connected REPL. Why people expect that LLM somehow, magically do it better?

no offense but it doesn't sound like you understand what worker owned means. you straight up just described capital owned.

Do the workers at a startup own shares? That means the workers own part of the company. If they chose to raise more capital, that's their decision. Even the most socialist leaning coffee shop will raise capital to pay for capital improvements.

A nice thought. But the early options/shares issued at a startup have been gamed to the point that only the principals can ever get a significant cash payout. THe rest of the employee shares are of a special class that may as well be called 'worthless paper'.

That's really a different point. Most startups fail -- and it doesn't matter whether they're owned by the workers or some distant capitalist. And, yes, sometimes people are ripped off through dilution.

But the reality is that startups workers usually have shares and the shares make them owners. Whether they benefit or not from the ownership isn't the question here.

All you need to do is look at some union-run cooperatives that fail to understand that "worker owned" is not magic.

Non-voting shares? That you can't sell? How is that ownership? The rules for these shares seem to strip all ownership rights from them.

When that single issue is a genocide, the calculus changes. Would you feel the same about a news source that argues the Hutus were acting in self defense?

Part of the issue is the label genocide is applied so liberally as to lose meaning. We're seeing similar devaluation of previously potent labels like "fashist"

It then becomes easy to say "I don't engage with fashists / genocide supporters / whatever" as an obvious justification for staying in ones bubble when in reality that label is so overused for people/events that say 10 years ago would have obviously not been labeled this way.

That is to say: when everyone is fascist/ genocider you have an excuse to not debate with anyone but that's not good for you.

I did not choose this world, it’s just the one I live in. If enough people believe something, it’s not really surprising to see it written, even if it is wrong. According to many comments I have read here and articles on even respectable American websites, I live in a communist shithole on the verge of collapse, we’re drowning in bureaucracy and we’re all just waiting for the good Americans to show us how everything is done. Meh. I can open the window and see how wrong they are, but I am not going to refrain from reading anything written by an American just because their nationality makes them likely to be very wrong about a lot of things in Europe.

In reality yes, Israel is a nationalist theocracy and obviously guilty of genocide in Gaza and in Lebanon. Your opinion on this or mine has no bearing on our credibility when discussing things like rocket mechanics or economics. I am not using the Armenian genocide as a purity test, either. Or the Holodomor.

You seem to be clueless about Israel’s war with Hezbollah in Lebanon (and probably about Gaza too).

Or you have redefined “genocide” to mean any war Israel is involved in.
