Even in their example "turn the surfboard red", with a bounding box around the surfboard, it turned the whole surfer's wetsuit red too. Things are never quite going to get there.
I think what he meant was that it gives you good overall observabiity, over your entire context, kind of how langfuse or these platforms do, but it does so locally. A good philosophy i picked up is how they treat the transcript as the backbone of the product.
Trouble is you'd be scooping up 90% of boys in a certain race, class, age bracket, because those ballys and bikes and Nike tech are effectively fashion at this point even if you're doing nothing wrong. And if that's the case you don't need AI you can just wait outside the school gates and arrest everyone.
Those are the types likely to be committing a lot of the crimes. Come to a working class town and see for yourself, or go on any local town Facebook group or council page and look at the comments.
Not arrest, you could monitor though. Personal anecdote but it's clear that after 3pm/4pm once they leave school they start to scatter around. It's rather peaceful for the most part before then. Chaos on school holidays.
You must've been living under a rock. Flock is the panopticon camera network in the USA. It watches most people's location most of the time, so the police can just type in someone's identifier and find out where they are and where they've been.
This is not the same. If everyone wants mowed lawns, and everyone is busy working on that, there is no opportunity cost, everyone is working on their top priorities. The broken window fallacy is a fallacy because the headline gdp figure doesn't account for the destruction of the window which cancels out the benefit. In the grass mowing analogy nothing has been destroyed, useful and priority work has been done all around.
The comments in the other post on this topic had an article which slammed Sagan's book for being outdated and espousing debunked triune Brian theory. The article was called "your brain is not an onion with a lizard inside".
