For sure its enough. We haven't had a GTA game for a decade.
There was some interview with the Skyrim people who didn't want to do the next skyrim because of the success of Skyrim. Lets be honest, just make another Skyrim a little bit better here, a little bit better there, new stores done.
A game is better than no game especially after that much time
> if anything real comes out of this, he needs to pay.
It doesn't change for you, because you give a powerful multibilionaire criminal the benefit of doubt. We all know he won't be condemned. So it is your decision to only hold him accountable WHEN he gets condemned. Well, you will keep getting outrage from people that think this is a shameful behavior. I hope this thread helps you not be surprised next time.
> Doesn't change the things he might be able to say about AI though
Some people don't think pedophilia is such a big issue. Most people think someone associated with Epstein should not get public attention much less credibility.
Even a billionar has the right for Presumption of innocence.
I'm not surprised per se that people act like this, i'm surprised that someone on hn is not capable having a proper discussion about it and being very unreflective.
Its not that i have any impact on the world.
And yes pedophilia is a big issue, that doesn't mean i can't hear what someone like bill gates says especially as it cost so little to read a website of him.
He is not an actor were I stop going to their movies. For one german actor for example i wrote an email to a theater because they still had his picture on the wall.
No im not. I'm not protecting him and i'm quite disappointed that his good reputation is gone because of it. Before Epstein details, he became a lot more helpful to the society (ebola for example).
But "Presumption of innocence" is a real thing.
And it doesn't change the fact, that Bill Gates still for sure is knowledgable and probably relevant enough to read what he thinks
The easiest route is probably to have it sit with its back to a Qi charger pad, with the coils in a sort of cape over the battery. Not much added weight for the coils, and quite a neat little intro project to get it to align itself and sit correctly.
I think magnetically aligned physical pin connections are better. Charge faster, generate less heat, and better for the battery. Wireless charging is cool, but not sure why it would need to be wireless in this case.
Good ones actually are quite aware of the industry, connect the dots and setup the company to be sustainable, growing and ready when its time to be ready.
Like investing in a prototype which solves industry issues the CEO understood.
Same as the CTO just that the CTOs focus is doing the same thing with technology. Like in an org with a lot of 'AI? who cares" saying and seeing the future of it and intorducing it in time and not until everyone else already did it.
Defining core principles like the tech stack, making the decision to keep the current setup or migrating to something 'new' but better in longterm (like migrating from or to kubernetes)
> It is still slow, a lot slower than what you are used to with claude and co.
That really depends on the model, I run a few models locally. All at speeds comparable to or faster than Opus.
In general we haven't reached the ceiling for what performance we can get out of consumer hardware. As evidence by FreeToken which hasn't even added MTP/speculative drafting support yet, which will add another boost.
> Then when it runs for 30 minutes for something claude needs 5, your device will get hot.
I doubt the timing differential here, but even still I run my 3090 pretty heavily with inference workloads and it stays cooler than when I use it for gaming.
> And even a used 3090 is apparently now between 1-2k.
Yeah I guess the price went up significantly in the last couple months, used to be hovering around 1k. 3090 isn't the only option though.
> That really depends on the model, I run a few models locally. All at speeds comparable to or faster than Opus.
Yes, a lot of Qwen3.8 27B setups are actually quite snappy, as long as they fit 100% in VRAM. In my testing, I wouldn't go below 32GB of VRAM, though—you really want a 6-bit quant and 8-bit K/V quants minimum. I've seen too much weirdness out of 4-bit quants since Qwen3.8 shipped. I think it may be damaged more than 3.6 at similar levels of quantization?
If hyperscalers hadn't bought up almost all the fast RAM production for the next several years, 32GB of VRAM would be tolerably cheap—a lot by "home PC" standards, but not terrible by "professional tools" standards. Sadly, the RAM market is amazingly ugly right now.
> I doubt the timing differential here, but even still I run my 3090 pretty heavily with inference workloads and it stays cooler than when I use it for gaming.
Yeah, running inference on a laptop is likely to run quite hot. But in an ATX case with decent cooling, it's generally a lower load than gaming. One handy tip: Many Nvidia GPUs (and some from other manufacturers) support power limits. For example, limit a 5090 to 400W instead of 600W, and it will run much cooler. You might lose 11% off your tokens/sec (depending on the exact card).
I have 2 4090 and last time i played around with it, the context window killed it for me.
The normal LLMStudio stuff works great, but then i tried out anything with subagent things or parallel stuff and it trashed my cache and got super sluggish/slowish.
Qwen 3.8 27B is so far the closest I have run, though it suffers on speed compared to Gemma4 26B MoE model which I still use. Neither are going to match Opus or Sol though, but they can be as fast or faster depending on what you are using them for.
I don't use a harness, all the mainstream ones I have tried have tanked my productivity. I know that's not a common sentiment, but it's been my experience. None seem built for the way I work. I program mostly in my head first away from keyboard, then go type it out (faster than it would take to describe the solution to an LLM). Also a perfectionist who likes to learn, and tends to work on out of distribution problems. All I need is a simple chat interface for light research, quick small scoped prototypes, and generating simple scripts.
Not saying a harness is out of the question for me, just all I have seen and tested so far are not for me. Maybe if someone builds a more deterministic harness that doesn't rely on plain English skill files that bloat context and only sometimes do what you want.
It's interesting to see how defensive some of these pro-China posters get on HN and elsewhere. I'm genuinely curious why there seems to be an inferiority complex here with respect to America/American companies.
> Xiamoi is some random chinese company not known for high end chips and was able to catch up impressivly in a short period of time
Xiamoi is a huge company and is a commonly known brand. They’ve been making chips for a long time. They didn’t start a few months ago and catch up with Apple on their first try.
That might be the funniest thing I read all day. Xiaomi is a massive company that makes all sorts of things, including a lot of pretty high-end mobiles, and has an annual revenue in the order of 75 billion US.
It’s no Apple, but it’s not exactly “some random Chinese company” either.
Intereresting point I will try to see if i can find more about it. I would assume apple has a lot more magic sause than just TSMCs best node and a little bit of ARM architecture addons.
And exactly how far ahead has Apple been since 2010 or so? That’s why you would assume that. ARM designs have different constraints than Apple’s designs.
Are they well known in China? I'm seeing that Chinese tech has decoupled from the West. They have all this cool stuff that we do not hear about because they aren't selling it to us because they don't need to. It's usually been stuff with better price to performance or ultra low prices though, rather than ultimate performance stuff. I wouldn't be surprised if they made a top end chip that everyone in China knew about, and we didn't.
I think for a while it was because they had a superior user experience that would compound with the more Apple products you acquired.
That, combined with sleek marketing and a good eye for product design, and building what was the best smartphone by far (IMO) in the world at the time it was first released, snowballed into Apple becoming the behomoth it is today.
I remember in 2018 they didn't have widgets, had like 3 different apps that had bugs, the swiping was slow after disabling animations, and everyday I was told I had to update.
And in 2018 the Pixel 2 was the Android flagship with 3 years of updates promised, with a Snapdragon 835 that was half the single thread speed of the corresponding A11 and slower in multicore with two extra cores.
Remember (not that long ago) when Apple was years ahead of ARM on performance, had vastly better support windows for their hardware and vastly better UI and UX? It is just that today Android has mostly caught up if not surpassed on a phone basis, but e.g. we still see a better ecosystem of iPhone + Watch with Apple, as well as between users.
I think it's great but it's important to remember that we haven't seen Xiaomi's chips in actual devices under real world tests. We don't know if the speeds are sustainable, under what wattage, etc. Competition is still great and I look forward to learning more, of course.
I find it funny not because I support Apple. I find it funny because it feels like the leapfrogging happened in early superscalar CPU evolution. The era when the Moore's Law was working.
I enjoy it because of progress, not because of Apple.
25 day old account, very first comment about using US models because you can't trust China? Be gone russian bot
@TRACK: yipinwong
Just kidding but seriously man, this level of paranoia isn't healthy. Try talking about it with someone you trust. The comment you're replying to is completely normal.
I'm just a german dude not finding this 'joke' funny.
I'm not an apple fanboy nor a xiamoi fanboy.
Its impressive that a random chinese company was able to catch up to the 2th richest company with global experts so fast and this achievement is not dimnished just because apple announced their M6 today.
I've seen so many I am not from China comment in all of the countries I mentioned like in HK, Japanese, Korea, Malaysia, but all turns out they are. Some of those countries communities expose countries, and yes, they are from mostly Guanzhou.
It's just funny how it's consistent they deny their own heritage. Be proud of who you are.
