What they should do, is inject a system prompt at that point telling the model to get out of there. It is the entire reason they train the different levels into the template.

Were they charged and convicted with a crime? Maybe they should have been...but we'll never know now.

I think that illegally crossing a country's border, especially as part of a drug cartel's narcotics operations, tends to carry some risk

What specific border are you talking about?

Any country

The available API shapes have limited so much over the years. It's really hard to come up with a new one and have it used, so everyone just tries to fit their work into the existing APIs (chat/completions).

Good job to them for putting out something that does seem quite nice to use, and will likely get a bit of wider traction.

I've met enough to know that selling sidewalk gas is totally an option in their mind.

It won't be long until people produce a decent training data set generation pipeline.

The number of people working on this is crazy. Something will coalesce.

I hope so. And I would really like to try an actual Jev open source model. But it will make it more difficult to market it when someone releases something like that because of so many of these "open source Jev-like model".

I'm just sitting back for a few weeks / a couple months to let it shake out, let others put in all the work, and then see if people are still interested and finding use cases that this access model fits better than the usual chat completions endpoint people are used to.

We are indeed in an era of riches (thanks to the $1 Trillion a year being spent on this tech) that it is improving so fast I can just sit back with my 3 year old hardware and newer, better, more amazing workflows keep becoming possible for me just due to model compression / optimization + workflow developments. If I can't get something working this season, I just wait until 3 months from now and there will be an easier to set up, less resource demanding, better working version I can have my local AI install for me. Pretty wild times.

That was them killing the QA team that really kicked off the apparent to end users lack of quality.

You're joking, right?

I do. I also blame doctors for the current state of our healthcare. It's a reprehensible, pissant, milquetoast thing to stand up and say "oh i hate the way is. But I refuse to organize to fix it and I'll externalize responsibility for change onto those outside the system being victimized, who have no power at all." Thats all scientists do, bemoaning the state of affairs it took them decades to create.

If you thought ai data center NIMBYism was bad, ask a scientist about effecting change in their lab or field

You do realize that doctors aren’t the ones denying Americans life-saving care, right? They’re not even setting the rates. They don’t mandate the system, the perform within it.

They save lives, and you blame them instead of the politicians taking money from lobbyists to keep private insurance death panels profitable.

There are always going to be "death panels", the only question is if they're staffed by accountants, lawyers, or doctors.

You kill someone, expect to get hell from their family.

Eventually the paying customers will get their fair share, even if it takes the new interim CEO taking a few million dollar pay cut to save a few more hundred Americans paying them money every month.

The President of the United States committing to spending $1.2 trillion of public dollars to send every adult a one-time $5K check if we vote the way he wants us to, while some family members face $120K or more in medical debt, it’s just a wild time.

It's exactly this mentality that is the problem. Doctors have much more agency that they admit. And they certainly can get more if they wanted to. Instead, they don't. And it's the constant refrain of "oh i absolutely just have got to follow along and enable" that's infuriating. No healthcare exec pretends they're disgusted with the system they support and strengthen. Doctors do.

That's how postmortems have been written for ages.

It'd be great if it were written as a postmortem, but seems like that's almost the only moment where a concrete hour is mentioned. Except for the screenshot footnote.

I've gotta mention it because everyone seems to have a learned helplessness with this type of thing. I went and spoke at my county commissioners meeting a couple times after the initial flock roll out (voted on with no discussion a couple years prior) started becoming apparent. The first meeting, the group of me and two other people were half of the people making public comment. Every single person was against it unless they worked for the county. At the second meeting there were a whole lot more people. Again, every single person who spoke who didn't work for the county was against it, this time they had eight+ police officers speak in favor of it.

We managed to swing a couple of the county commissioners who were in favor of it before and were not in favor of it after hearing about the constitutional issues as well as the cyber security issues that flock doesn't really care about.

Pasco county Florida is now removing all the cameras on the public right of ways at the end of this month.

I don’t understand your point.

> We managed to swing a couple of the county commissioners who were in favor of it before and were not in favor of it after hearing about the constitutional issues as well as the cyber security issues that flock doesn't really care about.

Do you not see the problem here?

Pasco County has a $2.2B annual budget. These county commissioners have the financial resources, organizational access to expertise, and time to focus on these problems.

Do they really need an under-resourced citizen to inform them about the constitutional issues after deployment? And then they just say “Aw shucks, whoopsies, now I see the light.”

I don’t think it’s fair to call this learned helplessness (a lingering belief after the threat has vanished) when we’re facing off against an active, persistent adversarial threat.

Your county commissioners didn’t make a “whoopsies” when they took a deliberate, informed action against your interests.

Furthermore, it’s unsustainable to require citizens to pour significant time and energy into forcing their representatives to faithfully represent them. That quite literally defeats the purpose of a representative governing body.

Oh I absolutely see the issue. These people are honestly beneath contempt after talking to them and seeing their responses.

Regardless, I'd rather tailor my message to people who I fundamentally disagree with, and make a little bit of progress.

Edit: anyways, the point is that a group of less than 15 or 20 people can sway decisions.

The real trick, is to stop going to these meetings, and start running against these politicians. Get the forms, stand out in front of your local post office, collect the signatures, and primary them. Run against them. That's the only thing they listen to

Not everyone has the drive, talent, connections, time, nor resources to run a political campaign. Showing up to your townhall every 2 weeks can already be an overly high barrier given some townhall times, but is much more feasible.

I did all of my development for a couple years on my first startup in a VM on my proxmox server, connected through spice. Was extremely nice being able to just go from desktop to laptop to any other machine that I had available and have the same environment available everywhere.

It's been a few years and I haven't had a need for it recently, but it's sad to hear that they stopped supporting it.
