You're probably right. The wars have served their purpose, i.e. distract voters from domestic issues. Who in power cares if they win or lose if they're still in power?
Why wouldn't they? There's been very little repercussions for anyone so far. Apart from the Netherlands bracing itself for sanctions from America because the ICC dared to suggest someone might have done something wrong.
It will gradually introduce tumors into every codebase, every academic institution, every board of directors, every intelligence agency. But hey, at least no one will suffer reputational damage!

The EU is specifically European - its in the name. Many of the arguments for the Eu that came up during Brexit were based on the importance of geographical proximity and shared culture.

I don't disagree, but by this standard North Korea is a democratic republic, and Turkey's membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization is a bit odd.
That depends what the aim of the war is. Is it to win, or just a distraction?
