Because as literally dozens of people have already pointed out, it often wasn't actually a duplicate.

"How do I do X in Python?"

"This has already been answered in . Closing as duplicate."

And then you look up that other question and it's "How do I do X in PHP?"

Ask how to prevent XSS, and someone will flag it as a duplicate of a question asking how to prevent SQL Injection. Ask how to encode something in Base64, someone will flag it as a duplicate of a question about how to encrypt something with AES.

And the worst part, is that these moron moderators pat themselves on the back for keeping SO clean.

> For example check the number of restaurants that hire their own drivers now.

Before DoorDash, other than pizza places (who still run their own drivers), what restaurants delivered? McDonald's tried delivery for a short period of time, but other than that, nobody delivered.

The Constitution and its amendments binds the government, not private entities such as corporations.

The Fourth Amendment gives you zero protections from corporations willingly handing your data over to the government upon a simple warrantless request. A corporation can choose to tell the government to pound sand without a warrant, but they're not in any legal way obligated to do so.

EDIT: Actually, I may be wrong here. The Electronic Communications Privacy Act of 1986 may give you some protections against data intended to be private, such as Friends-only social media posts, private messages, etc.

"They're not fixing the security issue, but at least they're documenting it" is a weird argument to make.

Which is kinda wild considering there's also a lot of openness zealots, too. People advocating for open source hardware, software, right to repair, etc.

This place can have both openness zealots and apple zealots

These may not be the same people but sometimes they are

I have an apple device and I like its hardware at its price. My brother gifted it to me and my father had an accident with it once which caused it to fall on pure concrete. Other laptops would have been broken but for this it was a tis but a scratch moment

But I am an openness zealot by heart. I can mix and match

In this particular instance though. Shame on apple for not taking any steps and maybe actively fighting against it. I don’t understand why! I hope that they definitely do something about it

My personal project web server has done this for years with just some basic nginx configuration.

You only find my webpage if the SNI contains the host name. If you connect using the bare IP, it presents a self-signed certificate. If you accept it, it just returns a bare 404 Not Found.

I was like "Poob? Are we just making shit up now?"

So I googled it. And yes, we are, and that's the entire joke of Poob.

tbh, I kinda wanna make a Poob website now. The front page describes itself as the ultimate social media site where you can do anything, taking major inspiration from the classic Zombocom. Yet, there won't be a Register or Login button anywhere. Just a static site.

According to many parents, every game console is a Nintendo.

Aside from the problem of getting people to actually COME to a LAN party, these days you gotta be careful with power consumption.

I've seen my PC consume up to 850 watts (as measured by a Kill-a-Watt) while gaming, and 900 watts during a stress test. At that level, just 2 PCs would be enough to reach the limit of a typical household 15-amp breaker.

Granted, I've got a monster PC (9800X3D, RTX 5090, 128 GB of RAM), but even with mid-grade specs, you can only expect to run 3 PCs on one breaker.

If you run a LAN party today, make sure to have plenty of extension cables rated for at least 15 amps.

I go to a semi-annual public BYOC LAN party event called PDXLAN. I have to buy two seats due to my PC's power consumption.

15 amp breakers aren't used for receptacles, usually only lighting.

Just checked my panel.

All the bedrooms and the den (where my computer is) are 15-amps. The rest, other than the EV charger and A/C, are 20 amps.

Same thought for me with Freenet about 15 years ago.

I liked the idea of it, especially since it was a time where ISPs were really cracking down on BitTorrents. But after seeing a few index sites inside the network, I quickly realized how much of that network was CSAM.

Deleted that and never looked back.
