Common complaint.

Personally, I like them. They look pleasing and I never had issues distinguishing between the ligatures for ==, ===, and = itself.

N26 also works fine on rooted devices. They don’t randomly block devices like others (besides Revolut, DKB comes to mind).

Just be careful. I locked myself out from my bank when I installed a second phone that did not have sim card yet and had the app in my old phone.

It requires a sim card and cannot be used from multiple phones. So they put you to this endless face scan loop and then lock you out.

I applied to open an N26 account, and after completing all the necessary documentation they then told me I had to install their app to activate the account. Forget it.

Instead I opened an account with Wise, and have never once been forced to use their app. One occasion where some ID verification process pushed me towards the app online, I spoke with support and everything was sorted without it. Wise.com, just need a web browser and a phone number, zero phone app dependency.

That’s not a licensed bank, from what I can see.

That’s right. Wise works with partner banks. However, their accounts are still covered by up to $250k of FDIC insurance.

Insurance against collapse of the bank. FDIC doesn't insure against fraud because you expanded your trust relationship across multiple third parties with credentials to access your account.

Mobile syncing works extremely well for me with Keepass2Android and webdav. Includes merge support. The sync story on Android is imo the best because of that.

Cheap Vps: mainly seafile (file sync) and prosody (jabber/xmpp). I want those always available from everywhere.

Living room has a small passively cooled n150 which runs almost 20 services, from home assistant and jellyfin, over paperless and navidrome, to some lesser known services (yamtrack, koito, grimoire). A bunch more, and I use them regularly, some more than others, but then adding a service without exposing it (my caddy lxc has 2 IPs, one port forwarded one internal only) is really cheap.

Same here, I’ve been cooking for myself and later also my wife since 2005, even when baking I rarely need exact amounts, for cooking I essentially never follow the recipe directly and adapt them as needed, without ever changing them from the original.

I mostly don’t even need a recipe from AI, just the title and a 1-2 sentence description.

When have you tried VS last? Since they went multi core, it’s usually very fast and it’s mostly R# slowing it down (though I read that improved, dunno).

I use Rider but need VS for some things.

VS2026, "August 2026 feature update" is installed apparently. Even without Resharper, it is not as fast as Rider, and Rider build speeds up MAUI build and deploy by at least 50%

And their MCP servers and tools are great! But I wish they’d remember that some of us also actually code in the IDE, because human usage quality of their IDEs has been getting worse in that time…

You are right, they fix even most annoying bugs really slowly. I also remember something like 2 years ago when they made pycharm unusable with poetry for several months and the release was like 18th of December (who decided to release tool for work as Christmas gift :-D ). The good thing is that you can always revert to older version and wait for proper fix.

There is some of the bean to bar variety. Very different price class, though.

I'd also guess (not know, haven't researched that area at all) that some of the fair trade and similar certified labels you can find even in supermarkets have a good enough control for that.

I had long given up on lab-grown meat. It started feeling like fusion, always around the corner, but never there (or at least not in an affordable way).

What replaced almost all ground beef (except in burgers) for me, was Jackfruit. More specifically, the combination 90% pea protein, 10% jackfruit. Granules that can be rehydrated with boiling water in 2 minutes, price competitive with discounter mince, no extra ingredients, no high carb count. It has a good texture and tastes mostly like whatever you season it with.

For me I eat similar thing from eatplanted.com, when they have discounts, otherwise it's still too expensive, but if price was lower I'd eat it all the time, it's that delicious.

Planted has the issues most meat replacements have, a lot of ingredients, and a higher carb count. Not an issue for everyone, but it is for me.

Planted: 10 ingredients, 5.6g/100g carbs in the finished product

Pea/Jackfruit granules: 2 ingredients, 1.9g/100g carbs in the dry product (so roughly 0.8g/100g in the finished product)

You should specify an example of what you're talking about maybe? I see a lotao brand jackfruit 'mince' - not sure there's a US equivalent with those macro characteristics.

Lotao is the one I use, DM has a house-brand with the same percentages. I thought the US would have something similar, but at least ChatGPT didn’t find anything.

Opposite here. Taken me hundreds of tries to quit smoking (none worked, vaping was the only thing that allowed me to), vaping I sometimes just don’t do, never had that with smoking, where I sometimes switched to menthol so I could keep smoking while sick…
