Adding my five cents: initial usage through OpenRouter has been great. Very fun model to spar with, clever, intelligent. On par with Opus 5.5 but without the Claudism's and more of a Sol type of conversation. Though speaking of Sol, I've been very dissapointed with Sol 6.1 to the extent that I feel OpenAI has neutered it compared to a few months ago. Especially when giving it goals it will happily run in dumb circles just burning tokens without any real work.

Sol 6.1 was released two weeks ago!

Yes sorry, I meant compared to the flagship models of a few months ago, < 6.1.

Definitely agree. Sol 5.6 was great when it was released and for nearly a month.

Since then they cut the price but the intelligence (of 6 and 6.1) has gone down to Sonnet 4 levels. I am back in a world where the model is lazy, cuts corners, ignores existing coding standards and context, makes stupid mistakes etc.

I am not sure how those models still rank so high in benchmarks when real-life usage is so obviously bad.

I just had Claude get me a 1997 game up and running on modern Windows in 30 minutes, and few days of off-hours prompting later, I'm part-way into upscaling/remastering graphics, have a browser 3D level preview, asset viewer, headless rendering pipeline, and entire internal game logic VM reversed and scripts decompiled to Lisp code.

Getting the game to work and upgrading some graphics was something I dreamed of since childhood (and attempted myself several times). I casually threw Opus 5.5 at it and was surprised at the result.

Didn't know until now that everyone else is doing the same with their favorite old games now.

(In my case, the game is Star Trek: Generations.)

Huh - I played ‘A Final Unity’ but had no idea they’d turned Generations into a sequel. MicroProse probably made way too many of my fond childhood memories.

I never thought of "Generations" as a sequel, I didn't even know for a long time they were related. As far as I can tell, the main relationship between the two games is that "Generations" uses the same engine and assets in space combat as "A Final Unity".

FWIW, AFU is next on my list, I just need to... dig up an old copy of that too.

Shame GoG never got around to remastering either of them, but thankfully Claude has no problems helping here.

From the article:

"However, the most astonishing thing about this break is that the GPT–6 Astra did it entirely on its own. Carter Leffer only directed GPT–6 Astra to see if it could break any of the unbroken Enigma messages published on the Crypto Cellar Research web page."

I mean... I'm all for collaboration but I think this case is pretty clear, no?

I mean, the LLM could do it even without all the HUMAN knowledge that was stealed during training about the Enigma machine?

We are fooling to me, there is no intelligence in these models, they just apply methods that were invented by humans without any consciousness on what they are doing.

You could say exactly the same about humans. Ex nihilo nihil fit. Every human depends on a vast corpus of prior human knowledge to be able to accomplish anything. This doesn't mean they have no intelligence.

This is dumb.

At the margin the innovative human matters.

What that means for the rest of society is TBD.

At the margin innovation is just taking the obvious next step first.

For what it's worth the original article is in Chinese: https://www.qbitai.com/2026/09/483600.html

The article linked here seems to be a (bad) auto-translated version.

It's not uncommon for images to be incorporated in an article like this, as they typically get shared around WeChat and correspond better with the 'culture'.

What I and my team have been doing in papers is just to refer to the OpenRouter slugs. It upsets reviewers because they will complain it "is not sufficiently clear to a wider audience" but I do agree it's the cleanest approach. Also goes to prove how much power OpenRouter has actually...
