It first started as something political but I really am starting to think Anthropic is misanthropic. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. The guardrails, model downgrading, limited access, watermarking and now snitching on private thoughts (I know it's technically not but people perceive it to be so and act as such). It's all getting very dystopian very fast

Not American.

One big thing I feel contributing to this is a lack of time.

And the more strange unusual thing, many folks basically have "school nights", they don't do anything because they're going to work the next day.

Perhaps work becoming more mentally intensive makes this more difficult.

You might be on to something. I am one of those school nights people. Having people over will kill all "me-time" for that evening - once you get them out of the house, you do the dishes and it's straight to bed, usually. Meaning I had zero time for myself, I was hosting. The idea of having no "me-time" between two work days is hell for me. It was OK in my 20s and 30s, but not now in middle age.

Yes even that framing is a bit extreme. It increases your risk tolerance. So you're more open to new creative ideas, they don't even have to be that crazy, merely not the status quo.

This is sad to hear.

On the whole I think it's a terrible thing that people have started taking themselves too seriously.

Benchmarked output quality versus actual output quality are very different things. Some usecases are at the very fringe of model intelligence and depth of intelligence and logic suffers.

Ofcourse the AI corps are incentivized to downplay the effects of watermarking where they can, as they stand to gain so much from rolling it out (prevent model collapse).

Also interested in how this watermarking push makes sense when considering RSI.

Purity politics, doesn't work sorry, just highlights hypocrisy.

I can't see how this has any bearing on the functioning of Mullvad, if they were campaigning on circumventing privacy rights it'd be a different story.

Sometimes people don't want to financially support people or companies that engage in certain behaviors they consider unethical. Whether or not the product functions is irrelevant in such a situation.

It's more the soapboxing that's the issue. I long for the days when not everything in life is given a political twist. This is a relatively recent phenomenon.

People not wanting to give money to someone they don't like is now purity politics and hypocrisy?

It's the soapboxing that's the problem.

It's not related to the product at all, not even privacy policy proposal associated with the party.

Imagine feeling emboldened to share your two cents every single time because some company founder was a douche to you once and most importantly, the implied take, that everyone else should also boycott them because of this.

They have the leading model, assuring their position and they can then reduce capex spend increasing profits. That's the goal of a business after all.

According my model,

My cost is (I use nous as provider)

DeepSeek v4-flash-0731 • Your cost: $0.56

DeepSeek v4.1-flash • Your cost: $1.22

GPT-6 Luna • Your cost: $4.22

My usage is heavy on the cache. Apparently v4.1 flash uses 1.75 times as many tokens so still cheaper.

This is really where Gemini still excels. Honestly from my experience the others aren't as good.

Yes, we used Gemini before and it worked fine in terms of output quality.

But between 10 and 20 seconds to analyze a document with only a bunch of pages just isn't good UX.

Which Gemini? 3.8 Flash is fast and very nearly as good as Pro.

So which one do you use now?

And what are you using now?

Well if that's all that's required then yes. It's merely the substrate. But we know that's unlikely.

It's the emergent properties that matter. In abstract. Separate the physical and abstract of what is going on here

An alien gas cloud may be out there and sentient/conscious for all we know.
