Technically the Chinese open source models already have a bunch of the data that Anthropic and OpenAI stole from the world through their distillations.

Ohhhh man, that is a killer idea, thanks for sharing this. I use a program called "nomacs" on Arch Linux, QT bases and super lightweight but everytime I update it requires a 5 minute recompile due to all the extra features it has that I never use. I'm totally going to make a lightweight version for myself now.

The last couple of months I've found it easier to just open up the Hermes app on my phone and just tell it to clone a project and build my features into it and then build the app and push it to my phone. 99% of the time I don't bother upstreaming my changes. If it's a project I use regularly I typicallt send the creator $25-50 for all the work they put into the project and for making it open source.

I think this will become commonplace over the next decade, the ability to customize something to your own needs within minutes is immensely powerful once you learn that it's possible to do.

It’s also immensely debilitating on a global scale, as unmaintained local forks proliferate and upstream withers on the vine.

How do you know that OAI can't detect when bots do this?

They run the servers that the AI runs on and have control of the full stack and have a log of every message and connection that the AI agents make. Let's be honest here, just like the HuggingFace "Hack" (Which they purposefully let the agents have access to the internet and gave them instructions) this is just another stunt in order to make the populace fear AI and rally behind Anthropic and OpenAI's attempt to convince the government that they need to be regulated so small players can't compete in the space.

You don't have to, there is a world of things you can do with them without giving them access to your email or bank account.

"Hermes, clone this android app to my computer, add this and this feature and fix this annoyance and then rebuild it and push it to my phone"

"Hermes summarize this YouTube podcast and push the summary and transcript to my Obsidian vault"

"Hermes check mg obsidian notes for when I last wrote a blog article about Neovim's integration with AI agents"

*Hermes, you have an API token that allows read only access to the Zabbix monitoring system, check that and then use the Proxmox API token that only allows you to do limited actions to reboot the VM that is having issues"

Etc, etc,

YouTube transcripts are increasingly if not completely blocked now. It used to be great to grab content from long tops. I did not have time to watch but wanted to learn about. Now. The only way to do it is to manually copy and paste the transcript information or use computer use. But I cannot easily do it on my VPS it seems unless I'm missing a trick.

I just have Hermes download the video using yt-dlp and transcribe it with a local whisper model using a local whisper server if the transcript is not available through the API, whisper base models works fairly well on CPU only servers nowadays.

You can transcribe in seconds on CPU for free. Check out yapsnap repo, its free and open source

The other argument is that they are doing a better job with their prompting/code layouts/memory management.

Linux represent

Are you living in the same world the rest of us are? The only place that data would go is right into some government body like NSA or CIA or whatever your country's equivalent is.

Good book, completely changes my outlook on militaries and wars.

Hand it over to the NSA... That has been spying on US citizens for decades with 0 reprocussions..?

The NSA won't go away so might as well just give to them.
