The trees were being "destroyed" (harvested) anyway, that is why they were planted. I don't understand why certain types of people are struggling so hard with the facts of this case.
The issue doesnt seem to be the trees, thats more for headlines.
The real issue seems thay they didnt implement proper water mitigation which is about 100x more damaging and potentially hazardous than cutting down trees. You can see it in the photo, they arent building that complex with much concern for the surrounding environment.
Reddit is an online mental institution. That's hardly an interesting insight, it just makes me sad when I think how good it used to be, before the events of 2016 broke Redditors brains.
My personal hate-on for SO: forcing all answers, INCLUDING the code to be licensed under an awkward CC license. Yes, you were "allowed" to dual-license the code in your answer under a more permissive license that doesn't require attribution.
I tried adding an explicit dual license to the code in my answers; but moderators would any answer that tried to do that.
Not so much that I care about the copyright of my code; but more a question of whether I would find a lawsuit from SO on my doorstep because I had neglected to credit SO for three lines of code that somebody ELSE had contributed to SO. A very real problem, given that SO management after the takeover had shown itself to be not really trustable.
If you're looking for obvious site defacements, something loudly compromised... that's usually not the game here. What is more likely is persistent covert shell access, hiding underneath. Accessible only to those who know the way in, doesn't draw attention to itself so it can persist for a long time before being used... a bit like the 11 month old account you've referenced here, that gets used to comment on this thread.
Sites with shell access become useful as part of botnets, for DDoS attacks. Setting up VPNs to provide lateral movement across to other websites. Why blow your cover by announcing your presence? A lot more damage is done in stealth.
I'm not in cybersecurity, but if you hunt around you'll find enough info about sites getting caught up in this.
Unfortunately you have made it about politics, so half the people won't listen to you, and half will agree without understanding the problem of the situation.
Surely you understand that making it about "Trump" implies you can fix it by voting, which you can't, because the laws were there under Democrat administrations too.
As soon as you say "Trump man bad" then the underlying discussion that needs to be had is lost.
It is obviously political, but the same practices happened under Biden and Obama. It is very clearly a both-sides issue, and I'm not sure how voting for dems is supposed to help.
Not OP, but I wouldn't so sure to read that intent into it. There are plenty of people on the left that are critical of the dems. We can both be critical of this practice under Obama as well as under Trump. Voting out incumbents, to me, would mean getting rid of all the officials that have been complacent in this practice, on both sides.
