I have long said, and I will stand behind, that by and large the % of police which are assholes is about the same as the % of the overall population who are assholes.

The only difference is that a random asshole on the street can't really do anything to me, I can just walk away.

A random asshole cop has a crazy amount of discretionary power over me, even without him stepping outside departmental procedures or the law.

I don’t expect that’s true. I think there is a self-selection for certain personality types (authoritarianism, thrill seeking, military cosplay fantasies, etc.) that make cops more abusive overall than the general population. By what percentage I can’t say.

Edit: seems this is partially true for personality but this study shows a correlation with holding more right wing views. (college students who expected to pursue law enforcement careers) https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40768353/

"Our standard process is to only retain logs when legally required to, either due to being notified about a litigation or through legally mandated periods" is a fully complete sentence.

Unless you're required to retain logs for some reason like a litigation hold or legally or contractually mandated retention period and you violate those, while the adversarial party might be annoyed at you for not retaining logs there isn't much they can or will do beyond being annoyed.

Of course if you destroy logs after being notified of litigation or inquiry, you're gonna have a bad day.

And for some of that, the "legally mandated period" is "since the beginning of time itself".

Watching Mayday on flights is one of my favorite things to do for some odd reason.

There's a podcast (that's been on "hiatus" for 6 years) that I used to listen to that would do an air crash segment. The show was called Hello Internet, and I would always try to queue up the air crash episodes for any flights I was on.

One of the hosts recently started a new podcast called Runway 23 that's mostly about air crashes, and his cohost is actually a Qantas pilot.

I took a walk.
