> Humans also make shit up all the time.

Kind of like saying something happens "all the time" and sharing a single example from 15 years ago. Not to mention that a private company's HR team is not the government.

I, for one, completely agree with the statement that 'humans make things up all the time' (often non-maliciously) also

Is "everybody" doing that, seems like a stretch? In fact, the current US President explicitly blames immigrants for many of our problems.

Its interesting that to argue against my point you use an example of somebody from the very specific group I mentioned.

Of course Donald Trump isnt going to blame rich white men for anything, he is one!

If that's the case, you shouldn't use words like everybody, because you don't mean everybody

The rest of your response can be answered in your own words: Oh there are clauses and exceptions to prejudice are there?

EDITED

Lol you literally have no idea what you are arguing against here.

I didnt think any sensible person would take the word everybody to mean literally every single person in existence. If I could go back and edit the post now I would happily change the word 'everybody' into 'lots of people' to satisfy the semantic pedants.

I dont think I have the energy to correct a random on the internet about exactly what my opinion is, other than to say I very much dont blame rich white men for anything and no I dont think there are exceptions to prejudice. But thats it, you can have the last word I'm out.

No, it was perfectly clear that you simply meant "everybody" that disagrees with you. That said, we know a large percentage of the population agrees with the President's immigrant framing because he was elected President based largely on that premise.

So, lots and lots of people are blaming immigrants for all our problems. I'm not sure rich white men need you to defend them to a random on the internet, they are doing just fine.

No I'm pretty sure by "everybody" he meant a loose quantity as in a large number of people. Of course such a quantity could be constrained e.g. to what can be seen on the news or maybe the local neighbourhood.

When someone says "everyone and their dog", they don't mean that the dogs are also participating.

Basically you failed to charitably interpret the person you are responding to and are now insisting on a reinterpretation that makes you look silly.

I mean think about what he wrote before that. "I look forward to", he is talking about the future in a sarcastic tone so the president being a counter example is his point. You're pinning him down onto the present and that is a strategic mistake.

You don't need to correct anything, to me your point came across very clearly.

Nobody said that, nor is it relevant. The point is if the food supply is more diversified, we are less exposed to single points of failure.

It’s absolutely relevant because a diversified food supply would result in smaller farms, other things held equal.

You have fewer single points of failure, but more opportunities for failure and a tougher time addressing it via inspection, and less capital available to implement compliance.

Imagining a guy gasping out his last words as he succumbs to life-ending diarrhea in the back of an ambulance that’s long since cut its lights and sirens, “This is the best of all possible capital allocations for hygiene compliance”

I would love to see your analysis that proves this is unequivocally worse than the current state.

> Same how you're not a musician just because you had Suno create something.

In this analogy, the person calling themselves a musician would have to be falsely calling themselves a programmer after using AI to code something. The word used here was "tinker" which can be any number of things. One can "tinker" with business ideas, investment theses, hardware designs, economic models, gameplay concepts, baking recipes, brewing formulas, and more.

> Those are not tinkerers, as there's no tinkering involved.

This seems closed minded view of tinkering. There are plenty of ways to tinker aside from just writing code. It could be in driving traffic to a website, selling a product, combining datasets, automating a task, etc.

I personally love economics and have used AI to tinker with combing multiple datasets to create new ways of viewing economic growth at the metro level across variables.

The same logic that has spent decades providing us with poorly planned preemptive attacks and an ever-growing military budget. Meanwhile, the quality-of-life for the citizens who pay for it continues to decline.

> Are US citizens richer than they were before?

Some of them certainly are richer, specifically people with the last name Trump.

I personally believe the well-sourced journalism explaining how the President ignored the opinions of Government experts to do what he wanted.

If quitting a job is "performative" what would you consider a "non-performative" act?

Ironically, you are doing your own preaching in your comments. It could even be described as "performative."

Oh God I realized the issue here, I didn't make myself clear:

Talking about doing something on a 4 month old account is not the same as doing it. I give credit to people for doing things, not claiming to do them in an anonymous forum they just joined. Cynical? Perhaps, but maybe if people were just a bit more cynical about believing any text on the internet just because it feels better to believe it, we'd be better off.

You don't have to believe me, but I made my account after I quit. I wanted to be able to talk about what happened without doxxing myself and my old account was tied to my actual work.

That's fair; when all is said and done, more is said than done. That is much, much better than the more common thing that leads to comments like yours; I think some comments and downvotes come from the assumption that your comments come from a place of "I don't like it when people make decisions based on their ethics, because I don't like their ethics". That is, unfortunately, very common.

Buy an umbrella?

Umbrellas are great at keeping your head and shoulders dry, but kind of suck beyond that.

That's like a 5-10 second walk, I can't imagine your legs are going to get all that wet in that timespan.

Like if I'm bringing my bins to the road for pickup, I never bother putting on a jacket or w/e regardless of weather. If it does happen to actually be a torrential downpour, I just switch to a new t-shirt when I'm back inside.
