Why is this a surprise?

No other country outside the US and China really even matter when it comes to AI. Cohere and Mistral are important labs, but in no way do they make Canada or France significant in any way shape or form.

In 2026, Europe is great for a holiday. That's about it.

Europe is also great place to live, which is much more important than being leaders in AI race to generate more wealth for your mega corporations.

I’m european, and I don’t buy into the idea that profit over everything is good.

I really like living in Europe (Sweden right now, but I lived in Czech, Estonia and I’m from the UK)…

But, I think unless we do some wealth generating activities, we won’t be such a nice place to live in future.

Our power on the world stage will decrease, our infrastructure will start to be neglected due to lack of investment, quality will diminish in most areas…

I say this because that’s how the UK feels in most areas (outside of London), a bunch of “new flashy stuff” to prove that “we still got it” but it’s incredibly low quality while the actual infrastructure crumbles to bits.

Haha, fair point.

The EU is no longer the largest economic bloc in the world, but that happened due to Brexit.

AI labs buy a lot of photolithography machines?

Nobody cares about non-free countries like the US. AI in the rest of the world is the only AI that matters to us.
