What do you think Orwellian language means?
help

Orwell's 6 rules for good writing:

1. Never use a metaphor, simile, or other figure of speech which you are used to seeing in print.

2. Never use a long word where a short one will do.

3. If it is possible to cut a word out, always cut it out.

4. Never use the passive where you can use the active.

5. Never use a foreign phrase, a scientific word, or a jargon word if you can think of an everyday English equivalent.

6. Break any of these rules sooner than say anything outright barbarous.

That's not what is understood when we use the term "Orwellian":

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orwellian

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/Orwellian

https://www.oed.com/dictionary/orwellian_adj?tl=true

https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/orwellia...

If both the wikipedia definitions and all the dictionary definitions differ from your definition, it's probably not the dictionaries and wikipedia getting it wrong.

Did I ever use the term "Orwellian" in my comment?

I think GP's was a reference to Politics and the English Language (1946)—not "1984". An essay against convoluted writing styles.
