The compositor is not the ultimate service on the system. Saying that all APIs calls should be sent to the compositor and then the compositor in turn uses some bespoke IPC to communicate with other services is not architecturally sound.
It's not entirely unreasonable & the space should stay open to explore other options. But those people trying to make sure compositors aren't allowed to grow a cohesive protocol where the compositor does rule the desktop? They're obstructing the most progress, most security, most sense making we've had.
And they don't really have any leg to stand on now. Be quiet. Fuck off. Figure out the alternative and come back when you have something real to say. Because right now there is nothing. DBus is sort of it, but as I asserted, it's fairly unregulated fairly unsecured nonsense. That many projects are fleeing rapidly.
When the critics are preventing the only viable game from doing straightforward obvious things the protocol can and should do, when they have no alternatives to offer: they need to sort their own shit out.
