Yes. Visit https://keepandroidopen.org/ and ctrl+f "escape hatch" for more info

The page addresses it: https://keepandroidopen.org/#objections

24h delay is not all of it, there's developer verification.

Google is doing everything they can to slowly remove those work arounds.

I listed my reasons for IOS. It’s ultimately just a much better user experience. You just have to give up on writing your own code to run on it.

Isn't it possible, however complicated, for users to undo the lockdown to install an app? The required 9 steps are noted at https://keepandroidopen.org/ for devices that use Google Play Services.

Irrespective, people should probably be migrating to a GrapheneOS or similar OS asap once the OS ships with a device.

In preparation for the upcoming [Android lockdown](https://keepandroidopen.org/) I've started vibe-coding some PWAs for apps that I like so I can have a webby version of them with no ads and no Google/iOS lock-in. I like this, it feels like a good direction.

Google is making it increasingly difficult to freely install software from app stores that they don't control and tax. Quoting https://keepandroidopen.org :

> Starting in 2027*, a silent update, nonconsensually pushed by Google, will block every Android app whose developer hasn't registered with Google, signed their contract, paid up, and handed over government ID.

> Every app and every device, worldwide, with no opt-out.

Yeah, not for much longer though: https://keepandroidopen.org/

One Google doom over, another to go: https://keepandroidopen.org/

I don't want to Godwin this thread so early, but you know what analogy I'm thinking of. If you work as a developer for Google, Microsoft, Flock, CloudFlare, Facebook etc. etc. you are complicit in making the world a crappier place.

Did J. Random Hacker at Google decide to ruin Android app development[1] for everyone? No, but he made it happen. I hate that guy. (Also.)

[1] Edit: I'm referring to this nonsense: https://keepandroidopen.org/

It's a massive problem that mobile apps are most users favorite way to consume programs yet are one of the few forms of distribution being gatekept by two massive and opinionated companies. It feels like the slow creeping rot at the foundation of the premise (and promise) of technology and the internet.

Which makes this a good time to remind everyone about the Keep Android Open movement:

Currently Google is planning to lock down the Android platform to only Google Play store software repository. See https://keepandroidopen.org/ for more info.

Is this ruling related to https://keepandroidopen.org/ at all? It's not clear to me..

Step back to the other issue (referenced in the page*), that Google would pushing on devices something that blocks applications that do not come from play.google.com . Was it not established that Google can only push that update on devices with a google account?
